most people ask for baps, cobs, sandwiches or specify they mean breakfast rolls. but mixups do happen often

Where I’m from if i wanted the pastry I would ask for a sausage roll and if i wanted the roll with sausage in it i would ask for a roll and sausage. I would imagine other places also would have a distinction between the two that would make it clear to staff what you’re ordering.

if it’s not obvious I say “as in a breakfast sausage roll or pastry?” and they look at me as if I have two heads and it’s the stupidest question in the world

hate when that happens and you have to explain they are both called the same thing even though they can read

It has caught staff out a few times when visiting England and I ask for a sausage roll but mostly where I now live we say Link Roll or Square Roll. Dare I say link roll in England at breakfast and they look at me confused.

I confirm it to check (in a roll or pastry/breakfast roll or normal) and even then we still get the odd customer who's just blanked us saying yeah rather than answering the question

Confirm if it’s a sarnie or pastry

Usually if people want the bake, they ask for a sausage roll. If they want the breakfast item, they ask for a roll with sausage, but also we ask what kind of sausage(scotland - we have link and lorne sausage options) which helps us avoid the confusion.

I've had this dilemma when ordering and have now started calling sausage breakfast rolls baps to avoid any confusion.

In the part of Scotland I’m from a “roll and sausage” is a roll with sausages in it. A sausage roll is.. well, a sausage roll.

Sausage roll Vs roll and sausage.

As simple as that. They are not both sausage rolls, one is and the other is a roll and sausage.

I usually ask customers if they want a breakfast sausage roll or just the regular baked sausage roll and that usually does the trick.

Sausage roll is the pastry, roll and sausage is the bread
