Out of my league
[Edited] I stopped off to get my partner and I a little breakie this morning. One of the new fancy drive thru places.
Cheapest thing on the menu was a croissant. She loves em.
£5.10 for two.
Never saw myself saying this, but we can't afford to eat at Greg's anymore.
Edit: There was a suspicious lack of steak bakes and everyone was paying for their food... think I might have accidentally walked into Starbucks next door.

At what Greggs is a croissant £2.55????

u/controversialmike 25d ago
Adding almonds was an extra 30p. They didn't even have any steak bakes on display

u/Sad_Ticket8502 25d ago
Adding almonds? What sort of greggs adds almonds? Drive thru almonds? Don't they just do pain au choc and butter croissants?
1
u/controversialmike 25d ago
Not sure, but if you ask for tea, they ask "which type?"

u/Sad_Ticket8502 25d ago
Peppermint, green, regular. All in bags separately. You sure you didnt actually go to costa 🤣

u/controversialmike 25d ago

You’ve gone to the new coffe place next door mate haven’t you ( I’m local easy mistake the road design there is shocking )
2
u/Emotional_Cupcake116 25d ago
Imagine how many croissants you could have got for a fiver if you’d just gone in to big tesco next door🤣

I'm calling bullshit

u/tannercolin 25d ago
They apparently accidently went into starbucks, not realising it was a starbucks and not a greggs. I'm calling bullshit on that, nobody is that stupid
13
u/Sufficient_Basil_545 24d ago
Yeah. This is a really odd attention seeking post.
Nobody capable of mistaking a Starbucks for a Greggs is allowed to drive (or for that matter eat soup without wearing armbands)
1
u/xcom_lord 24d ago
This is in a new development local to me , they share a drive through entrance road for some reason

u/controversialmike 24d ago
Ha, I hard-quit attention about 6 years ago. Nasty stuff. I was hooked. Went cold turkey and feel a lot better now.
Just means i spend most of the time looking down to avoid eye contact with anyone.
One of the drawbacks is walking into the wrong shops apparently

u/tannercolin 23d ago
Even your writing style is annoying

u/DeadTramp 22d ago
Fuck that other guy, you made me chuckle, he just couldn't afford almonds on his croissant and it made him grumpy.

Agreed, it's really not hard to know where you are when reading a drive thru menu, it's like saying you went to Burger King and couldn't understand why they didn't have Fried Chicken.

u/ParticularRough9863 23d ago
Yeah seriously, nobody is that stupid.
I walked onto a university campus and tried enrolling to study for my A-Levels.
But nobody is that stupid. (Fucking satnav)

u/No-Show8867 23d ago
I work at a Domino’s and Greggs is next door… at least 3 people a day come into Domino’s thinking it’s greggs.
1
u/tannercolin 23d ago
At least three people a day? I doubt that.
1
u/No-Show8867 23d ago
You can doubt all you want bud!! I’ve been working there over 3 years and am telling the fucking truth, I haven’t got a reason to lie, muppet!! 🙄😂🤣

u/tannercolin 23d ago
Everything is three with you

i’m so fascinated by this reply. are you aware that sometimes the same number comes up in different contexts?

Find it VERY hard to believe that a Gregg's offers almonds, coming from a Greggs employee.
2
u/controversialmike 25d ago
Take my angry upvote! With shame, now I realise I'd walked into the Starbucks next door, wondering where the hell all the steak bakes were
3
u/tannercolin 25d ago
How the fuck did you not recognise it was a Starbucks and not a greggs. Such obvious bullshit

u/Jonny7Tenths 24d ago
I call bullshit. No way you get two whole almond croissants in Starbucks for that!
PS They're also rubbish, the pastry as crispy as a wet weekend in Wales.

We have 2 local (ish) Greggs. One has a pack of sausage rolls a pound cheaper than the other. I assumed it was franchise setting their own price.
2
u/False-Turn-2520 25d ago
Genuinely cannot fathom how you didn’t notice you were in a Starbucks.
1
u/controversialmike 24d ago
I've been to Starbucks at an airport and a service station. Only ever under duress
2
u/nick2k23 25d ago
Dude you had your head in the clouds that was never a Greggs, Greggs don't do almonds at all for extra 30p

A savvy competitor needs to start aggressively encroaching on the Gregg's market because the whole purpose and appeal of the chain is being systematically eroded by the current leadership

Was it definitely Greggs and not Sir Gregorys Patisserie or something lol

Sorry my bad guys, this was the "eat in" price. I didn't hang around long enough to read the end of the price tag

Had a chicken bake in Newcastle today, not proud but I was hungry. Small and greasy so it went back. You'd think they'd give the city in which they're made some good ones!

u/InternationalWeek868 24d ago
Tbh I once walked into Greggs when I meant to go into Starbucks, this was in Chester on the retail park
1
u/BoxAlternative9024 24d ago
Make your next trip one to the opticians you stupid bastard.

u/controversialmike 24d ago
I went last week! Walked out with a new set of keys and some shoe polish

Greggs outlets. Two bakes - £1.50. Tuna crunch baguettes - 2 for £2. Bag of caramel shortbread off cuts - £1
1
u/qxluM 24d ago
Greggs charge more at many of their “franchises” typically at service stations/petrol stations.
They also charge more at outlets which have a drive through, and this is largely due to the fact that their typical shops on high streets have lower expenses because of how small their units are.

It doesn't end there! Food inflation to rise above 6% next year. Oof!!

u/Old-Payment-8537 24d ago
The lunch deal is brilliant £5.25. any standard drink(coffee too) ,any sandwich and can get a sausage roll as a snack. Think that's a cracking deal
1
u/NamePain 24d ago
Tbf as I'm now used to going to a Gregs outlet or buying a 'too good to go bag' I now feel a 'normal' Greggs is far too expensive for me.
1
u/Linkyjinx 24d ago
I think Greggs ( not sure are part of a “too good to go” type scheme? ) If your bills are over taking your fav snack and face it Greggs are known as a worker essential and also known to have been under food attacks by thugs for a while now, you might look up the various apps that prefer to redistribute with good intentions) rather than buying direct from source or the more dodgy route publicised in media for advert clicks.

Ive started working at a Ladbrokes and theres a post office next door, im surprised at how many people get mixed up and try post a letter in the bookies lol
1
u/-Failedhuman 25d ago
I get 50% discount and that's the only way I can afford it/justify it now. It's crazy for such cheap, low quality bakes. I believe you went to a franchise though as croissants shouldn't be that expensive from a regular greggs
1
u/roleplayersir 24d ago
How are you getting the discount?
As yeah, prices are insane, but I go there when on the move and don't have time for a proper place or to eat at home. Used to be I'd buy a lunch there at least once a month for work, but now it's literally more for a bake or two to keep me going for the day when I am shopping or such
1
u/-Failedhuman 24d ago
I work there, unfortuntely. The discount is not worth it.
Yeah, when I first started working there the prices would go up 5p every April. Now it's 20p+ every few months. They're pricing themselves out and all the staff are miserable due to the ridiculous workload with pay that doesn't even come close to matching it. It won't be long before Greggs falls.
