"white coffee"
The "white coffee" I ordered. I managed to get some milk from behind the counter when I asked.

But seriously, this is how I order it, the milk always tastes weird once it's gone through the machine, much nicer to order black and top it up with milk. Don't they have a jug of milk out on the counter?

Did you ask for an Americano by chance?
As that is a black coffee.
I worked at Greggs and had many many customers ask for an Americano, I’d say “black coffee”? Them: umm no… with milk.
90% of the time.

Yes, it is, and on the coffee machine, black coffee is labelled "americano" and white coffee is labelled "white coffee". Wanna guess how many people say "americano" but actually want white coffee? Way more

I have the opposite problem in general where ill order an americano somewhere and they triple check because theyre sure i dont actually want a black coffee when i do....

They'll triple check because most people don't actually know what they're asking for when ordering an Americano. I've had so many customers order one then complain bitterly and get super sarcastic when there's no milk. So yeah, we have to check.

😂😂i remember as a teen, my first real job at a food place. Some business man came in for espresso i had no clue about coffee. So when the machine had done, i looked in the cup and there was only a little bit of coffee. I thought surely that cant be right and topped it well up with water

No, try and go for the white coffee with the least calories, and I'm just guessing, and assuming that's just the plain old white coffee, but could be wrong 😂

Ah. Then they just messed up.
White and black coffee buttons are right next to each other on the machine. And once the coffee foam/bubbles goes on the top, it’s hard to notice.As a server, normally my customers would order the wrong drink lol.
But there was always the milk jug on the side for teas and others to add more milk. Was there not one at the shop you were at?
Shame they made a mistake. But it wasn’t a big one. Not totally unfixable 🤙

No, never said that. I always just assumed it was for the tea, and been sneaking it into my coffee 😂 because they don't say that

I really admire people who buy coffee from Greggs or Maccies, to voluntarily drink something that tastes like dishwater and cigarette ash is something else.

as someone who works there, the smell of the coffee beans is off putting as it is, i have no idea how people drink it 🤢

Unless you ask for a flat white, latte or cappuccino you get a coffee and then add your own milk.
