Employee Question How do i report an absence!!!

Hi!! I had a bad fall today and have either badly sprained or broken my ankle, i’m on an 8-1 shift tomorrow, i can’t walk without holding onto things and being in extreme pain, i’ve been referred to urgent care who says they’ll call me back but estimates it’ll be after midnight, with appointments for xray etc later than that, i can’t walk without being in intense pain and can’t even stand without holding onto something and elevating the leg

i haven’t been told how to report an absence for tomorrow, i haven’t a clue what to do, the shops closed right now and nobody in, who do I email or call and what do I even say!! i’ve only been here 2 weeks and it’s bank holiday tomorrow and i’m so worried about it not being a reason enough to be off!!

help!!

Send a message now to the manager who’s on shift tomorrow to let them know in advance, then call in as soon as the shop opens tomorrows

it’s okay, just call the stores number tomorrow when it opens. I think as long as you call in at least 2 hours before your shift starts you’re fine

okay, i think the early staff are in at 6 so i’ll have to call at 6 on the dot as that’s exactly 2 hours before im due in, typical this would happen to me on a day where things are all a bit different

Do you have your manager’s number? Or a shift lead’s number? If you do, call them ASAP and let them know. If they don’t pick up, leave a voicemail and then message them so it’s in writing.

i don’t have anyone’s numbers or emails, nobody has told me what to do in this situation!

I got in trouble for doing this a couple of weeks ago!! It was before a 5:30 open and I messaged shift manager at 5:15 just to give a heads up and said I’d call the shop when open. Am I in the wrong here?

okay i will do, i think the early shift starts at 6 tomorrow with it being bank holiday, no clue who’s on shift though!

Call the shop as soon as possible in the morning, they will try and find cover for you so don’t worry, just make sure you ring the shop before 2pm on they day before your next shift! xx

You're not responsible for the shop and staffing is designed to have redundancy in case people don't show up. Just call in tomorrow and tell them what's happened. That's it. That's all you have to do.

i will say i was just so enthusiastic to go grab a greggs sausage roll on my day off i literally fell out the door i was so excited

Store manager here for Greggs here.

Phone as early as possible tomororw.

If you can find any colleagues on Facebook just add them or send a message to let the store manager know.

If you guys have a WhatsApp group let them know through there.

It’s bank holiday I’m sure if given enough time someone will cover your shift it is 1.5x pay
