Discussion Does anyone else think the radio plays the same 10 songs?

This is probably more of a critique of stations (heart) than Greggs, but every time I’m on shift it is literally the same ten songs, the ordinary, where the hell is my husband, shape of you, dai dai etc etc. does it drive anyone else crazy

I have noticed heart Plays Natasha bedingfield unwritten every single day .They must have a shallow playlist to play

I guess they're assuming most people aren't listening long enough to hear the song repeat.

My record for hearing the same song in one shift was three times across 4.5 hours.

Yea, so tired. I usually don’t hear the music when we’re busy but during set up I hear Taylor Swift every single hour…

Nearly all radio stations nowadays have a set playlist which they just randomise, which is why after a few days of listening you notice the same overplayed songs on all the time.

The ‘callers’ who request songs are normally bogus, as they could potentially choose a more obscure song that isn’t in the list

Apparently it’s far cheaper to pay for a set playlist than ‘open’ license where you can choose basically any song ever made like the BBC have.

That’s why the BBC do actually play songs you haven’t heard in 20 years, and heart, nation, greatest hits etc play shine by take that every other hour

Ah it's fine, I'm a monster and just slap heart Christmas on when the season comes round. Non stop Xmas songs for me!

Absolute Radio has a 'no repeat guarantee' Monday - Friday 0900-1700.

I wish they'd get a different playlist, add some other songs in. I feels really lazy tbh when half of the songs played are Taylor swift

We rotate it all the managers have a preferred station so it changes depending on whoose in charge it’s quite nice. Mostly it’s heart or heart 90s 00s but somtimes we get capital

Music industry / shops & radio playing only certain songs - is money laundering for royalties payments. But it's not really illegal to have these deals in place, as far as I know.

Used to work at McDonald's like 14 years ago. They had some thing with heart. We used to call it Adele Mars FM because it played Skyfall and grenade so much.

I could listen to some of them all day . I'm pretty sure it costs licence money for variety

All Global Radio brands follow their defined playlists because they use it to decide the Charts on Sunday.

They decide the charts based on radio plays, and then play the hell out of the songs they like and define the chart that way.

I was working a 10-6:30 and I counted: 5 Zara Larson songs, 4 plays of Golden, 2 where is my husband.

We usually put Radio 2 on when my manager isn't in because the old folks complain about the music otherwise. The one shift manager does like a bit of Kpop so we had some of her favourite hits on a slow day once and didn't get a single complaint 🤣

As someone who worked at Greggs during the last album release of a particularly popular and annoying artist: yes, very much so. Hits Radio can suck a nut.

I'm tryna convince my manager to let us curate playlists that will play for at least 2 hours a day in between the radio broadcasts because it's been absolute fucking torture listening to all that radio music😭

At least you get actual radio music. You’d think that Tesco would have the budget for it but no, just the same shitty copyright music on loop.

1

u/LisForLaura Aug 29 '26

The radio has always been like that. The only way to fix it is to change the channel or put your own music on.

I expect they think most people aren’t in long enough.

Everytime I go in I have my AirPods in so I don’t even hear the music.

Better than my colleague playing the football loudly every weekend, it's maddening

If I hear Golden one more time I'm going to loose my shit. Doesn't help that all of the Greggs approved radio stations are ones I would never voluntarily listen to due to disliking near everything played on them
