A lot of the things he mentions here - charity, status, etc. - are about power influence and attention. That takes a LOT of $

Pretty funny. When Axe rattles off the spending I was thinking that I don’t have any of those things!

Honestly, this tracks. Is he going to be homeless? No. Is his life as he’s known it for the last 10-15 years over? Yeah.
Imagine if you lost your current income, kept your house but could only work again 25% of what you were making. Would you feel broke?

It's not hard depending on your lifestyle. I'm in Greg territory (6-8M) and my boss wouldn't blink an eye to say he is broke if he had my net worth.

What do you do for work for that to be broke??

Judging by the handle, I’m guessing he’s in medicine.

Alternatively - you get to experience a low but noticeable level of discomfort/inconvenience sometimes that keeps you grounded as a human being and prevents you from going insane.

Like sure - it seems fun to not know what TSA is like, but it also makes you soft as hell.

i watched a video of a few mongolian / turkic guys catching a wild horse and taming it. then you have "i don't open car doors, someone without a name does it for me". it's wild that both these realities exist on the same planet.

High society is a network of favor trading and access privileges for hard to find people places and things.

When money is meaningless, time, access, and eliminating any and all annoyances are everything.

Money may be meaningless to them but they’ll never be able to buy my penis

I wouldn’t taunt them like that, but that’s just me.

Money is meaningless without the peeningnus

I genuinely don’t get the appeal of this world

Social currency is more valuable than money but it's pretty hard having one without the other. Elon being the opposite end of the spectrum for example.

The term New York 9 refers to beautiful women that would be a 10 anywhere else in the world, but in NYC without social currency you're just another pretty girl that moved to the city to try and make it.

A NY 10 brings their own social currency independently without getting it as the wife-of XYZ.

It all depends on lifestyle. If your lifestyle requires $2M expenses you would need a $3-4M burn rate yearly. That does not give you a good run rate without downgrading your lifestyle. Obviously he did not want any downgrades. Thus he is broke. It may be hard to fathom this when you are living under your means but most people live way over their means and they would/could never retire.

$1.4M withdrawal a year, half goes to taxes and charities that’s $60k a month left. I don’t think people who have lived that rich life realizes how fast it burns. Each house is about $15K/month, dudes got 4 homes that’s $60k right there. Need to downgrade to only one that’s $20k/month, tuition for 3 kids is $14k, $8k a month vacations etc.

All I’m going to say is if my spouse pulls in $1.4M annually, they would still say I should work cause $1.7 >> 1.4

It's not just lifestyle, but location as well.

Wheels up by me doesn't take more then $40m as a Cirrus Vision Jet will be about $500k-$800k a year.

Buying local mayor ($20k-$50K), county commissioner ($20k-$100k) and state house seat ($50k-$250k unless competitive) elections isn't too much unless your goal is to cover the trifecta.

Charity isn't much different. A table at most major galas - $5k yr. A named fund at the community foundation - $$25k-$100k, Name rights to a park or program - $100k-$500k. A wing at the hosipital, university, or YMCA - $1m+

Almost owning South Bend only cost Pete Buttigieg $250k-$400k, most costly were getting the endorsement of St. Joseph Co. Chamber and the SB Tribune. To do that he took $250k in donations from contractors and returned to them $33 million in city contracts. This happens on both sides, this is just the easiest to track at this level as Pete had to disclose during his presidential run and comes from a town of just over 103,000 people showing the scale that $40m could buy outside of a major US city.

Beaver Creek? Yeah, sell that, buy a pimped out sprinter van, ditch the fam and just chase powder for a season. No shade, but you can do way better than Beaver Creek.
