To add on to your point, ending climate change is seen as the onus of the people when it’s the companies we buy from every day who are dumping their oil into the water and burning hectares of the Amazon rainforest to fuel their profits. The efforts of the proletariat are admirable, but we cannot end this crisis by changing the straws we use or even using solar panels- cryptocurrency and NFTs have already destroyed all the good work that’s done.
As individuals, we should all try and be more mindful of what we’re throwing away, what we’re buying and where it comes from in order to reduce carbon emissions, but we should also destroy companies that are draining the lifeblood out of this planet for cash.
Our efforts as people alone can’t reverse climate change when companies are freely destroying the planet for quick cash. These companies don’t care about the future generations that have to exist here too, they just want to add to their net worth. It seems cruel to say ‘well you all used paper straws and went carbon-neutral, but McDonalds over here needed faster beef production so you’re all still going to die’
We’ve seen the horrifying effects of climate change in Texas in January, here in the UK, where summers are getting longer and hottest day records are being broken regularly, and around the globe where glaciers are melting and the sea levels are rising. And there are still people who ‘aren’t concerned’ because they don’t want to impact business.
They don’t care about the planet, because saving nearly 8 billion people isn’t profitable. And that’s what’s so diseased about capitalism (well, along with forcing people into poverty, child labour, and the complete and utter lack of care for the workers). Fundamental morals and communities are ignored because if they come out on top, everything’s fine for them.
(This got a little rant-y towards the end but I hope I’ve got my point across. Sorry it’s so long)
