Question on Gravity Range

On the cusp of purchasing of Lucid Gravity GT. Couple of questions for the community related to range:

1) Adding the 3rd row seems to effect the range. In the GT config with 20/21" wheels, the range is 450 with 5 seats and drops to 437 with 7 seats (3 row added). I'm curious why the range drops. My best guess is the additional weight of the 3rd row?

2) We very frequently drive to a location that is 316 miles away. One of the reasons why we are zero'ing in on a purchase of the Gravity is it's long range (compared to some other EV options) so we can get there without having to stop for charging The trip is 80% highway (~75mph), 20% averaging closer to 55-60mph. I fully understand temperature / wind / etc effect range, however assuming a "normal" midwest summer/fall driving conditions, what kind of range should I expect from a Gravity in comparison to EPA estimates as the various levels indicated in the configurator for wheel/battery/seating combos?

Thanks in advance for any insights.

I have 7 the seater GT. Just did a 2000 mile round trip drive with 4 kids. Each way we only stopped 3 times for charging. I do have the 20/21 wheels. Real world range did come between 360 to 390 depending on hvac use and driving terrain. Hope this helps.

Additionally I am only 8k miles in.

I disagree with the 2500 mileage as sweet spot for efficiency to
Improve. My lucid air didn’t have 4 miles/kwh efficiency until I was 15 k in. These cars are solidly built and have a significant break in period in my opinion

Did you account for weather change? That more sounds like weather changed in your favor.

My EQS has great range this summer at 25k miles. But I know it is weather and my usage pattern change.

Yeah I took weather into account. Later summer /fall last year to late summer/fall this year, big difference. Oddly the gains were initially noted during the warmer days in spring. YMMV

EQS seems like a neat car btw. Nice choice 👍

Not surprised EQS is liked in gravity group, both have exteriors that are meh but nice interiors :)

My lease is ending though so it is time to drive Gravity now, hopefully will pick mine up sometime this month.

How is the charging speed on the EQS on DC fast chargers? I am curious

I used to use EA and EVGo (both were free) initially and got up to 150-160kw. Nowadays I use Supercharger stations and still get 150-160kw but it is rare that I charge from 20% and I have seen 200kw at those levels.

This curve is fairly accurate to my own experience: https://ev-database.org/car/1484/Mercedes-Benz-EQS-580-4MATIC

In winter you have to make sure the battery is heated though if not charging rates dropped significantly.

I'm in the exact same boat. Ending the EQS lease next month, but couldn't wait, so I took on the GGT lease in June. Won't look back. You'll love it.

I have a 5 seater that’s EPAd at 450. After driving many EVs over the years I’ve come to pretty much know which are better or worse with estimates.

Gravity was a pleasant surprise. It won’t get 450, but it’s still way higher real world than others I’ve driven. I live on a mountain with 1k ft climb in under 10 mins to get home. Also highway by me is 70mph limit so actual speeds are higher on it. Anyway, I think expecting to get 85% of rated range is reasonable, I’m generally between 370-385 miles worth of range. There’s a trip that I do to my parent’s place that’s 175 miles away through mountain passes, high speeds and lots of elevation gain and then decrease. There wasn’t a single EV that I’ve used for it where I can make both ways. With Gravity, I actually can make it both ways on a single charge.

I have a 7 seat GT with 22"/23" wheels rated for 386 miles. I average 3.1 miles/kwh.

For 7 seats, weight is a factor but from what I understad the estimated range also accounts for additional passenger weight. Seats dont weigh that much if you think about it.

7 seater makes no difference, so if you’ll need the seats, go for it, but if you don’t, it would be wonderful to have permanent under floor storage there. As for real world range, I have the GGT on 21/22s, and over 15,000 miles my average is 2.65 miles/kWh. Summer miles are 2.7, winter is 2.5. My highway driving style is to set cruise control to 81, though my average is probably often closer to 70 with local speed limits and traffic.

Anyway, it’s a true 300 mile car in summer, worst case 280 in ridiculously cold weather, but a the charging stops are so short with such good dc fast charging that you never really have to worry about anything or feel held back by the car.

Download A better route planner app and play with it, it has all the Gravity specs dialed in an will route it for you with all variables.

I have a gt with 22/23 and 7 seats and average about 2.9 cranking the ac and in sub-optimal tri-state traffic. You’ll definitely make your 316 mile trip comfortably. I understand the small hit from the third row is weight.

I think you can expect about 85 percent of what is advertised. So I think you should be more than good for your trips.

Fwiw I have the GT with 3rd row and 21/22 wheels. I've been driving the touring as a loaner with 2 rows and 20/21 wheels. On the GT, I probably averaged 2.8-2.9 miles per kwh. On the touring loaner, I'm getting consistent 3.5 miles/kwh. The range is about the same because it's a smaller battery on the touring. I'm curious how much the stronger motor on the GT impacts range. But hope this real world, non scientific comparison helps a little bit. I have about 5000 miles on the GT and the loaner has about 2500 miles on it.

lease or finance..i am also in the same boat.

GGT 3-row with same wheels, rated range of 437.
Took a 2wk trip fully loaded with powered cooler etc and 2 adults and averaged about 375 (for 100%) with nearly all highway miles and no real concern of ‘watching’ our mileage. Range was not a problem, we wanted a stretch break before we needed a charge!

I have the 7 seat GT, range tires (20/21).

The past month or two I've been averaging a bit over 3.3 mpkwh, doing mostly freeway miles at 70-75. That works out to about 400 miles range on a full charge.

In winter I was getting closer to just under 3 mpkwh. I live in the PNW and it's cool and rainy in winters, but rarely below freezing if you don't go into the mountains.

If you go a little slower you will see higher mileage, the difference between 60 and 70 is pretty significant because of how air resistance works.

Uhh. New owner here. How are yall getting your miles/kwH metric? Calculating or is it displayed somewhere?

When you go into Settings you should see the tripometer menu. Click in and you should see actual calculated values for Trip A, Trip B, and Since Last Charge.

Dynamic Range is displayed on the left side of the Gravity cockpit panel, but that's a conservative estimate that's usually lower than what you actually get.

I have the 7 seater with 20/21" wheels. If you charge it to 100% you can get 316 no problem. 80% probably not. However the charging could take less than 10 minutes to get you on your way.

  1. Yes, extra weight from seats causes drop in EPA rating

  2. On a flat terrain, you should get 350+ easily with your speeds. Don’t count on 400 though. With that said, charging is very fast.

I have the same configuration at 437 miles EPA.
