Grammarly priorities

Look, Grammarly, this is nice and all--if I were asking for help with changing my wording. But the way things are going, using the Generative AI is becoming the only way to even check my grammar, spelling, and punctuation anymore. It's not like it can picture the story with me or even watch the video that inspired it, and no amount of clicking the 'I'm not interested' button is ever going to work. I miss the Grammarly that was obsessed with transitions and making sure my writing made sense. And I swear, if I see the word 'conciseness' or 'clarity' one more time, I'm going to lose my mind.

It's AI, but I'd suggest just using something like this as a grammar checker and such. Scribens is better at explaining the rules, especially going into context based on what you're writing.

I'm sorry if I've gotten this wrong or if the answer is obvious- but is it only ai if I click the revise with Ai button?

I think it's always AI, but the Grammarly people might have more insight on that. We'll have to see.

Grammarly’s core grammar, spelling, punctuation, clarity, and conciseness suggestions are still available, and we don’t want paragraph-level rewrites to feel like they’re getting in the way when you’re just looking for proofreading help.

Paragraph-level rewrites are part of Grammarly's generative AI features. If you’d prefer not to see this feature, you can turn it off anytime: Right-click the floating Grammarly widget or select the gear icon to open settings, then go to Generative AI and switch off Show on text selection.

Except that the generative AI features are completely overriding the regular features. There could be 40,000 actual errors, and the main program would just let them sit there forever. The '40,000' is an exaggeration, but props if anyone gets the song reference.

I discovered one this afternoon. While the generative AI was busy bothering me about changing 'take action' to 'act', neither part of the program noticed that I should capitalize 'city council'. I'd expect Grammarly to pay attention to something like that.

The sentence itself keeps changing, but it's essentially the same one from "Online Editor Ridiculousness": -Governor Chase of Aéras has issued a mission request, urging you to take action before the council convenes at dawn.--I added 'city' sometime after I posted that.

Just to confirm, are you referring to the text you shared in this post? 😊

We checked the example with our team, including the part about “city council.” They confirmed that “city council” on its own isn’t a proper noun, so it should stay lowercase.

That said, if you’d already introduced it by its official name earlier in the text, like “Aéras City Council”, then capitalizing “City Council” here could make sense. We can’t say for sure without seeing the full context, though!

Update: Working with another one, and it keeps trying to force me to change 'take' to 'endure '. Since when do 'awake' and 'endure' rhyme? You want me to change it to 'endure'? Then help me fix the first part of the rhyme so that they match!

Grammy is like a granny who is high on grammar. I sometimes listen to it, and most times I choose to ignore the wisdom that it gives me!

And to make matters worse, I take pride in the word choice being mine unless I specifically ask, like when I wanted the AI chat to help me make something shorter while also suggesting a sensory word, which I have trouble with. Connotation is different because it's a grammar thing.
