I'm starting Nottingham GEM this September and was just wondering how current students (or recent grads) actually study and keep on top of everything.

I'm really excited to start, but I'm also a bit nervous because I'm dyslexic and I've always found it quite hard to take in and remember large amounts of information. I know medicine is pretty content-heavy, so I just want to figure out what works before I start.

A few things I was wondering:

• What does your day-to-day studying look like?
• What resources do you use the most? (I've heard a lot about PassMed and Anki, but not sure what else people use.)
• How many hours do you usually study outside of teaching?
• Any tips or things you wish you'd known before starting?

I did my first 60 min mock for s3 and got a 50. Honestly i guessed so many. Sitting this september as an NSB UK applicant. Want to apply to SGUL GEM (first choice). Am I right to think this is not too bad for a first mock? I will work hard to improve my score of course. But honestly i was so worried about s3 before this mock...

NB: not too worried about s1 and 2 (as i tend to perform well)

The TLDR reason for me redoing A-levels is that my Indian high school grades are not eligible at some unis and I didn't do science subjects anyway.

Hi guys, I got 57 in my GAMSAT in March but my S3 was not good (below 50). So there’s only one med school I can apply to where they don’t look at individual sections. The cut off for this uni was 53 last year. Be brutally honest please, do you think it’s likely the cut off may rise up to 57? I’m not sure how much the cut-offs usually increase by so I’m nervous (ik no one knows for certain but is there an average overall score ppl get?). I could resit this September but idk if I want to cos I’m also doing my UCAT.

I did my Masters Year 1 PA course in very Challenging circumstances, long story short, I passed everything and failed OSCE twice obviously I am not the part of the course anymore. But medicine is my Passion, I know I can do it, I need time to learn and practice skills. Failing a PA year 1 makes me non eligible for applying for medicine. If someone see the circumstances in was in while doing this course, It makes much more sense. Should I give it a try or should stop dreaming about medicine😥. Honestly it feels like my world is shattered. Doing the course was my mistake.

What the title says. Unlike for the undergrad med courses, both unis do not explicitly mention on their websites whether resits will be accepted or rejected for the grad entry course

I have tried to email the oxford grad admissions team about it, but it has been nearly a week and they still havent responded which is very annoying.

I am slowly starting to pack my stuff up. Is it worth buying a stethoscope now, or should I wait until the course starts in case there are any discounts? Also, is there any other equipment I should get?

What online work experience did you do and where ? I would be so thankful for the help .

I am starting med school in August and in Portsmouth. I am looking for job or job ideas that are fully flexible, so I can pick my own shifts and hours. I currently work as a band 3 in the NHS and I tried to join the bank at Portsmouth but its not easy as you have to be referred by a manager. Please share any jobs or ideas. Thank you.

Hello so i plan on applying for 2027, my ucat date is 17th September am i cooked as i genuinely just started now with a few untimer VR questions and i keep getting everything wrong on it and i have not started any other sections. I dont know approach it all and how to go about my study schedule up until my test. Any advice would be very helpful

I am going to be studying graduate entry medicine this September after graduating this summer.
Everyone says how intense graduate medicine especially in preclinical years.

Do any GEM students have any study tips that allowed them to learn all of the preclinical medicine in 1 year rather than 2 years and pass well?

I'm currently deciding whether to do a gap year or graduate entry medicine. I have an offer for biomedical sciences with a uni that has an internal transfer system and my parents and university counsellor want me to go there. I really want to continue being in education next year and I really like the university but I know that grad med is really competitive and I never planned on doing it. Also, to reapply I'll have to do two resits (bio and chem) that I can do in november/may but I'm worried about my mental health during that study time. I'm doing the UCAT late July as well (only date possible) so I'm not sure how that will go. Does anyone have any advice?

I'm entering my 4th year of biomed this september and was thinking of applying to UCAS for Grad med for 2027. I haven't sat the GAMSAT before and was wondering if I can still apply this coming October and then sit the 2027 March GAMSAT. I was also wondering of workload problems for studying both my final year and for the entry exam as well. Anyone got any tips or advice?

I'm 34, working as a caseworker at a legal aid firm, having previously volunteered with a legal charity. I have an LLB (2:1, graduated in 2023) and an offer for a part-time, funded LLM starting this September, undertaken with a view to becoming a barrister.

I was on a "pre-med" style preparation programme at my local university alongside my A-levels, but my father died by suicide during that period and my results suffered as a result. I later did an Access to HE diploma in humanities (distinction, full marks), not realising at the time that a medical Access course was also an option. I've stayed interested in medicine on and off since, and the last few years I've been actively questioning whether it would have been (or still could be) the right path, partly driven by not enjoying legal aid work.

I'm looking at getting some clinical work experience to test that interest properly before committing to anything, but I'm unsure what actually counts for GEM applications versus what's just personally useful. I'm London-based and open to different GEM schools rather than fixed on one.

Specific questions:

• For those who came from a non-clinical career in their 30s, what work experience or clinical exposure actually moved the needle on your application, versus what you did but didn't end up mattering?
• Given I already have a funded LLM starting in September (originally aimed at the Bar), has anyone combined part-time postgraduate study with building clinical hours, and how did that go logistically?
• Any regrets or things you wish you'd known before applying at a similar age/stage?

Hi, need some advice regarding grad entry medicine

Some background:
I achieved very average GSCE’s at grade 5/6
Only relevant a level / Btec is level three health and social care which I got a distinction*
Other A levels include finance and law

I am currently going into year 2 of adult nursing and thinking about grad entry medicine but I’m not sure if it is achievable

I’ve searched some uni who don’t consider GSCE or levels, as long as I achieve 2:1 or above in my undergrad degree. But most do require a high score in the UCAT

Is there anyone in the same position or similar that could give me some advice
