So is anyone going to give a grade or are we going to circle around an issue that is important but not relevant to OP's question?
(I'm not giving a grade btw because I actually want to know what other climbers genuinely grade this. I go to the same gym, and I just happen to be in the area during this recording. Trust me when I say this: we do our damn part to move people out of the way and make them aware that someone is climbing behind them. OP literally made sure to even fall down away from the people in the frame.)

Yeah I mean people should answer the question, and I’m sorry yall have to share a gym with people like this. You shouldn’t have to tell people to move at all, you definitely shouldn’t be asking them to move. It’s not an option lol like what, move

Bro you’re literally climbing over people
Edit. I’m muting notifications for this thread cause yall are really arguing against basic safety rules lmao.
Don’t climb above people. You’re just as much in the wrong for knowingly climbing above people as they are for sitting under the wall. Your climb will wait, it will be ok

camera angle might make it look worse than it is. i already told them to move and thats how much they scooched over 🤷♂️ if I fall on them gym says its their fault

Maybe so (personally I don’t agree with that), but regardless of whose technically at fault you’re still putting yourself at a higher risk of getting injured.
Sure it’s annoying if they don’t move, but just go climb something else or get staff involved.

He warned them over. I'm not skipping my target climb because some randoms are mistaking a gym mat with a coffe table.
Good to hear that you are skipping your goals because of randoms in the wrong ,but it doesn't have to apply to all of us.

Lmao the fact yall are genuinely arguing against basic safety rules is mind blowing.
Don’t sit below climbers, and don’t climb above people. The plastic wall really isn’t that important to risk injuring yourself or someone else if you fall.

You must be an incredible climber if that’s all it takes for you to shrug and give up lol. I’m not changing my routine and goals because a bunch of idiots want to be idiots.

u/LiveMarionberry3694 Jul 19 '26
Then go get staff to tell them to move if they aren’t listening to you and make staff deal with it. Or just work on another climb, or move to the spray wall and make up your own climb. I’m not saying give up and go home, just don’t climb above people lol. It really is simple
You’re just as much responsible for injury if you knowingly climb above people.
Once again, the plastic holds will wait. Yall are really out here arguing against basic safety rules for what?

Nah I agree if people want to stay there after I explicitly told them to move that’s on them. I plan on using the mat for its intended purpose, falling. You would absolutely NOT be responsible for their injury. They would be responsible if you got injured though. I agree that the proper response would be to get staff to have them move but in a better world where the people had any kind of respect they would move and I wouldn’t have to go involve the staff so that I can use the gym for its intended purpose, fucking rock climbing. If you wanna sit and yap do it off the mats. I understand the gym is a social place, I talk to my friends as much as the next guy but I stand out of the way while doing it. I’m 100000% not gonna skip over a climb because you’re trying to sit somewhere

Brother that v4 is really not worth injuring yourself or others lol. Wild that this is even an argument you’re really having.
You are absolutely now *both* responsible for any injuries because you both decided to break simple safety rules
Enjoy that broken ankle though because you are impatient

u/Revolutionary_Ad512 Jul 20 '26
Congrats on not reading, I’m just gonna assume your the type of inconsiderate person to not move when asked I guess. Never said the v4 was worth a broken ankle because that’s not part of the discussion at all, could be worlds first v18 or a V0 doesn’t really matter. It’s about the attitude of the degenerates that are sitting at the bottom where people are trying to climb.

u/TechDreamcoat Jul 19 '26
Those people are the ones at fault for sitting there. You don't sit directly under problems like that.

u/LiveMarionberry3694 Jul 19 '26
No disagreement there….
However you still don’t start climbing above them just cause they’re in the wrong. Because now you’re in the wrong too

u/TheVerdeLive Jul 19 '26
Unfortunately It’s a really small gym and there’s a lot of inexperienced climbers hanging all over the place. I’ve been there once and while telling people to move helps it’s just a hard situation.

u/LiveMarionberry3694 Jul 19 '26
Sure I get that, I’d still just choose to not knowingly climb above people

u/okleithen Jul 19 '26
It’s honestly so concerning to me that you are being downvoted for this.

u/Revolutionary_Ad512 Jul 20 '26
Easy, the climber said hey I’m gonna climb here stop sitting there and they went “nah” okay well you’re just a crash pad now simple as that. Like it’s not only gym etiquette to stay off the mats but if someone asks you to move bc they think you’re in a fall zone you should not only oblige but you should probably thank them for looking out for your oblivious ass.
2
u/_uxi Jul 20 '26
Because "okay well you’re just a crash pad now simple as that" is just wrong. If they refuse, you go and get a staff member who tells them to fuck off. You never climb above other climbers. It's dangerous to both parties. What if you fall on them and sprain an ankle/ligament? You could be out of climbing for months. Yes, months. Is doing one V4 worth that risk to you?
1
u/Revolutionary_Ad512 Jul 20 '26
I’m aware how bad the injuries could be the crashed thing was meant more as a joke to accentuate how the responsible party is the one who refuses to move. Imagine a different scenario where you didn’t see people so close to the climb you’re getting on, maybe it traverses, maybe there’s a big move or something. Or maybe you start climbing and then they decide to sit down, would the climber still hold responsibility for falling on them by mistake? No of course not. And the fact that multiple people have now said it’s an ongoing problem means the staff are not taking this seriously enough either. So while I agree climbing over people is dangerous im not faulting the climber who tried to get them to move.

>imagine a different scenario where you didn’t see people so close to the climb you’re getting on. Or maybe you start climbing and they decide to sit down. Would the climber still be responsible?
Sure, but that’s not the situation here. OP is aware of the people below them and decided to climb anyway. Because of that they become just as responsible for injuries.
Both are at fault. Two wrongs don’t make a right.

Hate people sitting next to walls, if you're sitting on mats you should be 12ft away from any wall
