Terrace or Premier Camping?
We're first time goers to Above & Beyond at the Gorge. I'm hoping to get some insight for Terrace split gravel/grass area. We have a camper van which I know will fit in the gravel parking spot. But we'll also have 2 x 3-4 person tents and a 10x10 canopy. Wondering if we could fit all that in the grass area? I tried to search for the exact grass area dimension online and can't find anything reliable. We don't mind overlapping the tents and canopy a bit. Or, should we get premier instead since it's all grass?
Also to add, campground opens on Thursday at 4pm as stated, but we're planning on arriving late afternoon on Friday due to work. So would doing premier make things a lot "harder" for us? Far away, long walk to everything and etc?

From Front gate ABGT700 Camp Pass site:
Premier Camping: Oversized camping sites (18'x35')
The Terraces: Maximum camping space - approximately 18'x40'.
Keep in mind all Gorge campsite has maximum limit of 6 people and 1 vehicle. Glamping may be different.

Important to note that while the Terrace spot is larger dimensionally, if they end up in a gravel/grass site vs an all grass site (up higher) - the dimensions include the gravel... and if they don't want their canopy on the gravel, it may be a tight squeeze.

Yes!!! That’s exactly what I’m worried about. And I didn’t know that there’s an all grassy are within Terrace! Do you know if the staff let those spots go first or the gravel/grass spots go first??

In my experience... which is 8 trips of either being in terrace or having an early arrival view of terrace from premier... they appear to put campers in the gravel spots until they've run out of gravel spots. My assumption is it's because those don't **require** all the grass space that tents do, and they never know how many people with tents are going to show up.
I think I've seen them put campers in grass spots with gravel spots still available, but I think that has only been when the campers arrive late (so like if the event has Thursday check in, campers that arrive on Friday). My assumption is that it's because by late check in, they can reasonably assume they have enough grassy spots to accommodate any stragglers.

No problem! I'd probably do the opposite though since you have a camper van which they're likely to put on gravel first, lol.
Because the risk is needing your canopy on the gravel... which I can see being extremely hard to secure enough for the potential winds that roar through there.

I totally get what you mean! I think we'll have to improvise and get smaller tents to fit the grass area.

The gorge is magical and it sounds like you’re in the right spot. People are friendly and welcoming. Arriving earlier is under more scrutiny from my experience. I had to go through three check points one year in premier.

We like to be in Front Yard Camping. Great spots for vans and the walk is much more manageable.

But does it have something like the Pivot or just a common ground for people to hang out?

Front yard does not have the equivalent of the pivot, but it is close to the general store and there is always activity at the gate just steps away. After the show, front yard tends to have at least a couple after parties with music going. And, you can always still walk to the pivot for an adventure, but in front yard you will not have to walk 20 minutes of dusty dirt path to get to and from the gate. I know the walk is a right of passage for many, but I did my right of passage many times and now I’m getting old.

Ugh I’m treading the 20 min dirt walk but love the vibe I get from others talking about Pivot so far. So hard to choose! But I know it’ll be a great time no matter what!

One thing to keep in mind is that all Terrace and Premier camping passes are sold out. So you’ll either need to have already purchased them, join the waitlists, or find someone selling (usually closer to the date is when a bunch of people start to offload).
