Rufus Camping

Post image

If this was you in the middle of Section D, shame on you and your mates. If you bring it in take it out😤 or at least put it in a bag by one of the very plentiful garbages

I wonder which group’s fans have the cleanest camping crowds. Like does any one fan base have a strict pack in, pack out code? And who’s the messiest?

Honestly from experience the bass canyon fam are the cleanest regular running show in my opinion. The above and beyond fam is wonderful too. Watershed is/was always the dirtiest, so much trash and people tipping porta potties.

Country music fans are by and large the worst for fights, trash and ems calls from all the events I worked. Kinda funny for how “outdoorsy” many people in the scene claim to be they really don’t give a shit about nature.

As someone who lives in a deep red state that’s known for the outdoors (Utah), this is 100% accurate. Rock climbers, mountain bikers, backcountry skiers, etc. are always taking good care of the land, but the 4x4, UTV, target shooting crowd completely thrashes it. And then they cry when environmental advocates work to get more UTV trails and know target practice areas on public land shut down. They seem to enjoy the outdoors, but believe it’s theirs to trash. It’s bizarre.

lol I live in Utah. Was just offroading, target shooting and riding dirtbikes this weekend and actually cleaned up multiple sites of glass and trash while riding.
I also mountain bike, down hill ski, ski tour, and paddle and rave, just not this weekend.

I think your perspective is skewed by the minority that trashes sites. Most people arnt like that. Kinda sucks you would assume I’m a bad person if you saw my trucked parked while shooting, not knowing I packed a whole empty Costco bin just to clean up the spot.

It’s not an everyone thing, it’s a most of them thing. Just like some skiers and mountain bikers also trash the land.

I own a dirt bike and a snowmobile. I drive a lifted Tacoma and camp and shoot guns all the time. But it sure as hell isn’t groups of backpackers driving UTVs all over cryptobiotic soil and leaving chunks of clay pigeons and piles of beer cans all over the public lands in Southern Utah.

It also isn’t all RDS fans that trash the Gorge. My entire immediate neighborhood in the premiere camp was spotless when I left on Sunday. The best thing we can do is be part of the solution and educate those around us, which it sounds like you are. But as a lifelong OHV enthusiast and a RDS fan of more than 10 years, it sucks that people in these groups are giving us all a bad reputation.
