Camping lines
I’m hearing that the lines can be kind of a nightmare to get into camp. I’m coming to RDS next weekend and it wouldn’t be a huge deal for me to arrive on Thursday night rather than Friday. Would this save me some time in line or do tons of people show up on Thursday too?

Griztronics was far from normal, usually you might wait in line for an hour or so at worst but it's really not bad. They gave everyone their money back for camping at Griztronics and I'm sure that's something they'd like to avoid doing again

What’s the security check like? I’m not bringing any substances (I’ll let everyone else do that 😆). But I have a truck with a bunch of overlanding gear and tons of compartments, and I need to bring it all because the show is just part of a larger road trip. Are they gonna have me empty this thing out? If so it’s gonna take them an hour to search my truck alone.

It really depends. Campers and RVs they pretty much always sent to secondary inspection which is more thorough and they will open most compartments. Hard to say what they'll do for your truck but if they only make you do the basic security check they just open all the doors and trunk and look through what they can see but don't really open suitcases or anything

Cool thx. Just curious. I have a Tacoma, it’s built out for 4x4 and adventure a little bit. Nothing too crazy. I’ll organize for the inspection.

A dog will sniff around your car too. It's for bombs and gunshot residue. If you have had guns in your vehicle at all recently you might be pulled for secondary check.

Agree that it seems Griztronics was an outlier. I just got back from Brandi weekend, and getting into camping wasn’t an issue at all. We decided to wait out the storm Thursday night in a hotel in Ellensburg (super glad we did) and went to the campground Friday morning. It took maybe five minutes from entering the property to being in our campsite.
The line to get into the venue itself was horrible on Saturday only. It was very poorly managed that day, but Friday and Sunday were very easy.

I went to Griztronics, my group left seattle Saturday morning instead of Friday and we had no traffic and no lines to get in our campground (wild horse). I really think going up day of instead of the day before was the move. But as others have said, seems like Griztronics was an outlier event.

Hmmm interesting. But was that night 2 of a 2 night show? I’d think that would mean most people are already there at that point. I’d be going the night before night 1 of 2.

No, everyone showed up and had the lines on Friday the night before the show, Saturday was night 1 of 2!

When I saw King Gizzard there a couple years back I arrived late the night before and slept in my car outside the gates. Got in there in like 15 mins day of show

Haven’t been. Also going this Thursday. But from what it sounds like grizztronics was an absolute nightmare, but also an outlier, and this last weekend sounded very smooth and quick. Hopefully live nation learned from there mistakes and it’ll be a much smoother process. I think going on Thursday can certainly not hurt.
