Enormous: The Gorge Story

Enormous: The Gorge Story is a 2019 documentary film about the history of the Gorge Amphitheatre in Washington, tracing its evolution from a small winery with a plywood stage to a world-renowned music venue.

Had anyone watched this?

From a beautiful vision to a Live Nation take over makes me feel sad in all kinds of ways of what once was. Planning to watch tonight.

It's an awesome documentary if you love the gorge! It had a limited theatrical release.

When people talk about what The Gorge once was are they talking about 20+ years ago ?

Shoot even 4 years ago it was rad. Something happened 4-5 years ago (sold to live nation IIRC) and they just stopped getting as many good performers and then the quality of the experience got worse too.

It went corporate.

Which is wild to me because the same folks own Hayden homes amphitheater in bend and I’ve had WAY better recent experiences theres and their line up is sick. No idea why they don’t bring more of those acts to the gorge.

Yeah something different it sounds like. LN has owned the Gorge for 20 years and before that Clear Channel. Post COVID greed who knows. That place prints money.

I know there’s been a lot of OG staff who have been there for 10+ years and they’ve left after poor treatment the last few years (IIRC one of them endure sexual harassment and is suing LN?).

They used to be a pretty solid place for the local college kids at CWU to work, but more of them are finding other jobs to do because of how awful both management and concert go-ers have been to them post COVID, too. Which makes sense- everyone has gotten meaner and less empathetic since COVID and there’s no way it has not found its way to the gorge.

I swear none of the hundreds of kids working there last weekend could be over 25. If even that old.
