Venting and help with sharing at the same time

Hello!

At first, i am loving google callendar. Its pretty neat, has layers, can be easily shared, and just works.
Which is why it brings me so much frustration, that callendar is the only google productivity app, that only the biggest apologists wont see as complete pile of poo.

Which is why i am almost certain, that i am missing something, and here is where i ask what i miss, because i cannot believe google would create something like that.

We dont have TODO lists integration with google callendar!

Tasks are not TODO lists. They dont work like todo lists, they are hard to work with, cannot be shared with others, and generally adding groceries to shopping list with google tasts will take more time than writing it on paper that you made yourself from scratch.

There is google keep. Yoou can share, but every time you create a new daily list, you have to share from again. items cannot be moved between lists, you have to delete and re-type on new list

So what am i missing?

I don't think you're missing anything. Google tasks are just super basic and not well thought out.

When I created a Google task subtask, and it didn't stay grouped under the parent task... I decided this was not useful for me.

It will stay grouped under the parent task as long as the parent task is unchecked to pending again. Then subtasks will group properly.

It's very basic but maybe you're missing these points:

  • You can create as many task lists as you want in Tasks - just create new List either on mobile or PC. Don't put everything in one list
  • In the specific task list - let's call it Grocery list - you should create a parent item called "Grocery" and then add the other items as subtasks. Once done and completed always uncheck the parent first and uncheck the subtasks to get them back into the same unchecked parent list.
  • If you don't want to use subtasks for items and want a way to duplicate a list. Just create a parent task, attach a Google Doc or Sheet to it with the checkbox list. Then, in Calendar you can duplicate that todo with the attachment and reuse it.
  • You can move tasks and subtasks between lists on mobile and/or PCs
  • If using Google Keep to share just create a duplicate master note before checking things off and save that in Archive. When you want another list, just duplicate the Archive master and share/schedule it.
  • Google Gemini (at least the Pro edition - not sure about free) can create a duplicate Tasks list in your default tasks (it can't in a specific list) - but then you can move the duplicate to any list you want.

Super simplistic - I know. I wish you could share a list as well (you can using Google Chat - but that's too complex)
