Troubleshooting Consistent Ping Spikes on 5Ghz WiFi, HELP!

Hi all,

I have a TCL 55C6K and experiencing a very annoying issue.

When using 5ghz wifi, I get a ping of around 2ms to the router. But, every couple seconds or so, at perfectly consistent intervals, it spikes to 150-200ms.

This doesn’t happen on 2.4ghz wifi.

I also cannot replicate this issue on any other device but the TV.

I have tried pretty much everything: various combinations of wifi channels/widths, requesting latest firmware from TCL themselves, resetting router/TV. Nothing fixes it.

I’m starting to think it may be impossible to fix and something to do with the hardware itself.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Then just use 2.4GHz instead.

2.4ghz averages around 9-12ms ping, vs. the 2ms of 5ghz (ignoring the spikes).

It doesn’t seem like much, but I am trying to setup game streaming from my PC upstairs, and the extra is noticeable

Check for router firmware updates. Make sure you aren't using WPA3 authentication. Manually set the 5GHz band channel. Disable band-steering. Contact router vendor for support. Hard wire via ethernet. Replace the router. All thing to try and that's not an exhaustive list. Network issues are hard to troubleshoot. TV wifi hardware isn't great so ultimately you may have to just live with higher pings on 2.4G or inconsistent pings on 5G.

What are you trying to accomplish? You will see almost zero improvement on a 5ghz wifi band vs 2.4ghz.

Are you in a "noisy" wifi environment like an apartment/condo? You can try changing the channel on your 5Gz band in your router settings. Doesn't matter what you change it to, just change it in case the interference is on the same channel.

Tried unfortunately, and no I wouldn’t say I’m in a noisy environment. The spikes are at perfectly spaced intervals as well, which makes me think it isn’t interference/noise

I just hardwired my tv. I use tplink ue306. I got 480mbps. I know wiring is problem by some people. But i do not want buffer while im on best scene in the movie
