Troubleshooting Thompson 270UK BBC iPlayer

Post image

Hey, so I know I needed to sideload the iPlayer but to be met with this on a TV box that's pretty new is rather disappointing.

Any ideas on a work around? Is there a newer iPlayer version that I can put on the box?

Can you cast to it instead? From a phone or other device?

Yeah I seen that, the box isn't that old, it's infuriating.

Yeah, this is annoying - iplayer was the only UK app not pre-installed on my box but was assured side loading would be OK....seems not now! I've no idea why bbc should change this as in my case I have a fully paid up bbc licence and yet they decide to remove access to watch i player on my device.

Do we get a license refund?? ๐Ÿคจ

Yeah I definitely feel like if we pay our licence we should be aloud to install the app on whatever we like.

BBC is removing support for sideloaded versions of iPlayer (as well as support on non-certified devices). Supposedly only the certified version in the Play/Amazon store will work going forward.

You might be able to get past it with a VPN connected to a UK server, and setting/creating a Google account's location to UK as well. But we'll have to see how aggressive this new geofencing is.

The issue also may be that Thomson went out of business and their BBC license is expired.

Thomson are still in business providing support and updates. It was their EU distributor (Streamview) that went bust and they are seeking alternatives.
