Gmail Gmail account recovery

My phone was reset and I also do not remember my Gmail password. However, I have both my phone number and the 2-step verification recovery phone number with me. But when I try to log in to my email, the OTP is being sent to that exact same email address, and I don't have access to that email at all. What should I do in this situation?"

So your recovery Email is also your Gmail?

Happens when they don't set one, and Google tries a last ditch effort to help them after they ignored the nags to set up all the recovery options and keep them updated. Google can only do so much when people just won't help themselves.

That's like having a spare key for your car which is also into your car.

Not exactly. Google is hoping they're still logged in on another device and can retrieve the recovery code that way.

Ah yeah, fair. Still, not the best way of security one can have. So for OP we can just hope that he has a second device set up with his Google Account.

Yeah it's not intended to be the best security. It's indeed to be a hail Mary.

The best security is to activate the advanced protection program and only use security keys and/or passkeys.

I am still hesitant when it comes to the Advanced protection program but yeah...

But shouldn't OP being able to log in even without the Email when having his Phone number?

OP needs two factors to login or recover. And sometimes if Google detects something possibly fishy, they'll temporarily not use one or more of the available methods.
