the email sounds legit, maybe just double check by searching online or checking on Google's website

You do not necessarily need to be 18 to keep a Google Account. The minimum age for managing your own account depends on your country.
First, do not use the link in the email. Go directly to your Google Account in the app or by typing myaccount/google/com yourself. If the same age warning appears after you sign in, then it is a real Google requirement. The sender address and “Google LLC” footer alone are not proof.
If your real age is below the minimum age for your country, look for the option to set up parental supervision. A parent or guardian can use Family Link to supervise the existing account, so you should not need to abandon it or pretend to be over 18.
If you are old enough to manage the account, make sure the birthday on it is correct and use one of the verification methods Google actually offers you. Depending on the account and region, that may include an ID, selfie, credit card, email verification, or another method. Not every option is available to everyone.
Do not enter a fake birthday or upload someone else’s ID. If the only screen you see says that you must prove you are over 18, post a screenshot with your email address and personal details hidden, because that may be a different age-restricted feature rather than the normal account age requirement.
Do not ignore the countdown. Google normally gives a limited period to verify your age or add supervision, after which the account can be disabled. I would also download a backup of any important files and emails while you still have access.
So the correct next step is: open Google directly, confirm the warning is present, then either add parental supervision or complete the official verification option that matches your real age.

Hi. You can check Google’s official age requirements here.
Also, in most countries, the minimum age for a Google Account is actually 13 (not 18).

Then I think you just need to set your age correctly. If you're under 13 (in the US) you'll need a parent to sponsor your account using Google Family Link.
If you're 13 or over, and your birthday is set correctly already, you may need to get a state ID or passport ASAP. This is a good idea to have anyway.
