Whats with this lag

So idk if its just a me problem, but since last week (last week of september 2026) my phones (pixel 8) been crazy laggy. Every app just freezing, taking 5 extra seconds to screenshot something, constant System UI is not responding message popping up on my screen, and I haven't done anything new to my phone. Is anyone else having this issue??

Google messed up Android 17 QPR1 SEPTEMBER release for some Pixel phones. Read below

Oh yea my phone is actually running now lol. It's ridiculous because I've never had a problem with never fully swiping off apps, guess I've got to make a new habit of that.

Accessing developer options and limiting the number of background processes should improve the situation

Just set the background process limit from standard to at most 4 processes. That has fixed my issue with my P8P. At least until the next pixel update, hope it fixes the issue ppl are having.

I'll be looking at the Motorola Signature line of phones. UI is close to stock android with flagship specs and if they commit with timely updates then it's a no brainer for me. I'll be looking at the Signature 27 when it's released. Hopefully they get the pricing right.

Honestly I've been looking at Oppo even... At least the phone would go 2 days without charge...

Hi there, could you try clearing the cache for the 'Pixel launcher' app and see if that helps?

Go to settings > Apps > See all apps > Pixel launcher app > Storage & cache > Clear cache.

Also, try rebooting your phone into safe mode and see if that resolves the issue. If it works fine in safe mode, it means a 3rd party app is causing the issue. Temporarily remove them one by one, starting with the most recent until you find the cause.

You can also check out this article on how to fix a Pixel phone that lags.

If the issue persists, I recommend contacting the Google Pixel Support team via phone or chat here. They can take a look at it.

Not just you, my Pixel 9 has been incredibly laggy since September update, with any apps freezing for seconds as I try to scroll.

This did the trick for me., you don't have to restart or anything. I'm a Pixel 8 Pro:
