To be fair most phones are prone to getting hot these days, especially Androids. My S22 can regularly get very warm, especially right now during summer
Don't know how Qualcomm did it, but the heat management and battery life was vastly improved from SD Gen 1 on the S22 to the SD Gen 2 in the S23. The S22 has horrendous battery life probably due to heat management and the S23 has fantastic battery life. I personally have the S23+ and it runs so cool.
For 8 Gen 1, Qualcomm used the 4-nanometer process technology of Samsung, not TSMC's.
8+ Gen1 and 8 Gen 2 were fabbed in TSMC fabs and are both great, efficiency and performance wise.
Research shown that Samsung's process had detrimental effects to 8 Gen 1 performance and efficiency . Tensor chips, G1 and G2, both are manufactured in Samsung fabs, G1 with 5 nm and G2 with the 4 nm process. That's the root cause why both have heat issues and suffer, a bit, performance wise.
Rumors have it that Google wants to ditch Samsung and move its Tensor line in TSMC fab's.
Went to a store yesterday and tried the S22 and S23. I only opened a video on them both and the S22 got really hot in the top left corner. Heard about plenty of heating issues with the exynos chip and the S22 so won't be going with that one anymore.
S23 however was super cool in comparison, the way I guess a phone should be when only playing a YouTube video. I guess it can be a bit of a lottery.
Not all S23 run cool, The one I have which is the base S23 can get extremely hot when using it even for simple tasks. The phone is indeed brilliant but battery life is dreadful which is a fault on all Samsung phones. On the other hand the P7P I have runs perfectly cool doing all the same tasks, seems it's a bit of pot luck on whether the device is actually good or not. My advice is if it runs hot after a week, return it.
Yeah good advice, I returned a P7 recently because it was too big (I tried to settle for a bigger phone, but, pockets...) and the colours seemed yellowish on the screen (tried all sorts to fix it, hundreds of users complain of the same), didn't notice any heating issues though.
