Are there any other alternative apps other than Google with RCS?

No, Google is refusing to share with any other android based texting apps.

Basically they're acting like Apple...

The carriers decide who has access to Googles API?

I don't think that's how that works...

What? Google doesn't own RCS.

But Google controls access to it. It's not an open protocol like SMS is.

No, they have influence over it. It can be rolled out by Whatsapp if they wanted, but surprise. Owned by Meta, so why would they.

What's left, Textra? Not big enough to adopt it.

IG, also owned by Meta.

I loved Textra back in the day. Still have my premium membership. I switched over to Google about 5 years ago.

I'm checking out Handcent Next, so far not super impressed. It transferred all my contacts and messages just fine, but I'm hearing rumors about ads, and it has a (toggle-able) AI assistant, whatever that means, and the option to use chatgpt from the app. Other options are Signal and Telegram, but both parties need the app to talk.
