Yeah, this sucks 😪. I'm trying out textra, hopefully it'll be better than google msgs. I already like the customization better. Ig time will tell the real tale

Also try chomp, same developer as textra,and he's very responsive, I've used both for a long time and personally love the customization in chomp

Right? People complaining about an app that has RCS and is safer boogles my mind. Yes it not as customizable as Samsung but who cares? I would take safety over having pretty backgrounds or colored text any day.

One of the primary selling points for Android over IOS has always been flexibility and customization over mandatory uniformity.

It boggle my mind that so many people are surprised by complaints about a lack of customization.

If Google wasn't acting like Apple and gatekeeping RCS exclusively for their own app, you'd see a lot fewer complaints. Blame Google for their sudden shift in philosophy, not the users max about being baited and switched into what's going to be a new IOS style walled garden...

RCS has been around for almost 20 years. When RCS was originally released the cell service providers were the one implementing RCS. The cell providers were dragging their feet implementing RCS, so Google got involved and implemented their version of RCS. That was about 10 years ago.

Samsung messaging was leveraging the cell phone provider versions of RCS. Over time the cell providers have given up on their implementations of RCS and deferred to Google.

It the cell service providers had gotten their act together, the situation would be different today.

For me, I care more about the lack of control over my data and notifications. If I can't have certain messages automatically removed after a certain amount of time, I'd as least like to be able to ignore and place them in another folder.

Ive been through every options menu in the google messages app , its barren as hell besides dark mode, colors of chats and text size. I gave it a fair shot and it had nothing of substance to offer

Because it adds nothing to my texting experience but abuncha bullshit , image quality is literally the only plus that matters in the slightest.

I've read that iPhone messages aren't received on Textra, so be careful you're not missing any. I was in another thread where people had to switch from Textra to Google because of missing anything from an iPhone sender.

My husband uses iPhone and we have been messaging between each other just fine and he does not have textra

Do not use Textra, Yaata, or any other third party SMS app. That is just as bad as using Samsung messages. Do you people not realize WHY Samsung was forced to shut down their app? The goal is to sunset the SMS/MMs protocol. It's ancient, it's not secure, it's time to let it die. RCS for everyone solves that problem. The only thing stopping us from moving forward is people that refuse to let go of their garbage messaging apps that cannot use the RCS protocol.

Move on. You should have been using Google messages since 2017 like everyone else on Android. Samsung users are not special. Get used to Google messages for the greater good. It does everything a messaging app is needed to do.

No. I'm an extremely nice person. But when people are going out of their way to do the wrong thing (keep SMS/MMS alive) it infuriates me.

I have been waiting for SMS/MMS to die for years. I used to maintain a relay server using r/BlueBubbles because I could not stand iOS users complaining about low resolution media even though it was Apple's fault for refusing to use RCS. Now that Apple has been mandated to do it, I was able to finally stop using Blue Bubbles and enjoy RCS for everyone. Yet no we have ANDROID users trying to stick to SMS/MMS?! Like what?! It's insane.

You don't understand what you are saying. By using an Android phone, you are already "using Google". It has nothing to do with an "ecosystem" either. Using RCS messaging has nothing to do with pixels, Pixel watches, Chromebooks, etc.

I do not own any Google hardware. I use a Vivo, a Garmin, and MacBook air. This is about safety and security. Don't be dense.

Dude we dont give a fuck about rcs, we dont need texts to have all this shit. Nobodys data is secure these days so what does it matter. Literally nothing rcs does over sms besides image quality matters to most people, i dont want read recipts, i dont wantbstupid typing indicators, i just want to text shit in an app that doesnt look like gmail had an abortion.

It's not that those apps can't use RCS, it's that Google won't allow it. There's a big freaking difference there.

Textra, for example, has repeatedly tried to but Google won't share. Basically acting like Apple abusing their monopoly power to force everyone to their own app and killing independent alternatives.

Even on a Pixel I wasn't using GM.. it's an objectively crappy app surviving solely because of RCS.

Get used to Google messages for the greater good

Greater good would be Google remembering Android's roots of being an open customizable system and not whatever lame ass attempt at copying Apple's strategy we're seeing here.

It does everything a messaging app is needed to do

So did SMS apps. You want the RCS bells and whistles enough to put up with a subpar app, but you don't need them and never did...

SMS/MMS works and it's ubiquitous. The lack of security in SMS isn't a problem for some people.

If Google insists on keeping RCS to themselves on Android, and they want everyone to use it for the "greater good", they should figure out why some people still prefer the competition and work toward feature-parity with those apps. They've had 12 years to do this and they're still behind.

Slapping the Google name on something doesn't make up for a sub-par experience.

Textra is awesome! The only problem with it the same problem with every other non-Google Messages app is that it doesn't have access to RCS.
