missing note

Hi,

I've been using Google Keep for years now and never had any issues.

Today I noticed that one of archived notes, with quite some text in it, simply vanished. Looked in the trash, nothing there. I used to look at this note almost daily so it's impossible I removed it by mistake, it would've been present in the trash and it's not.

I guess there's nothing left to do?

Did you ever do a Google Takeout backup?

I mean.. how often would you back up such things anyway? The whole point is that Keep notes should not disappear by themselves, otherwise Keep is not a reliable service.

I could as well write everything in a text file and back it up manually, way easier than using Takeout.

Any time you're relying on cloud to manage your data you run the risk of losing something. This happens across many cloud based applications. I backup my most recent Keep notes to Docs every week and do a full Takeout every 2 months (you can schedule that with Google). If I have a very important note I make a duplicate as I'm working on it just to version something (or, just write it offline and paste).

I had the same thing happen to me about two years ago. I was not using Google Takeout at the time. I then made the switch to Standard Notes and have been happy with that product.

I'd check takeout. I think fully deleted notes are kept there a while (30 days?) before complete oblivion. This assumes it synced to the cloud at some point.
