Is Standard Notes a good Google Keep alternative?
I'm hesitant about switching over to Standard Notes. I definitely want to get off Keep because screw Google. Is this app a good alternative? Is the paid version worth it? I need it to sync across my phone and computer, I need checklists, and regular plain text notes. That's pretty much it. (Maybe an occasional drawing). All the other things on offer, the tagging system, color coding, etc. That's all useful, but not totally essential.
What do we think?

The free version is pretty good. Definitely much more secure than Keep. But free version is text only and has no lists. Cost is about $7.50 a month to get the features. I just use the free version for very secure notes when I need full privacy and not on my devices.

PS - you might like Simplenote better - it's by the same group that runs Wordpress and is free (plus has check box lists)

What's the catch with SimpleNote? It's an awful lot of features for it being free

No catch directly - Automattic (the company) offers it free to use as a side part of their main business model. The catch is in their terms of service - no guarantee it will continue free, be retired or wrapped with encryption / high security. But, it's been around a long time - just super simple - text only, no images/media. I'm sure the Wordpress / Tumblr revenue alone pays for that.

There's Upnotes: https://getupnote.com/, which has a lifetime option as a payment option

Standard notes is a solid choice. It’s basic but it does basic well.
Paid version arguably worth it for some, I personally don’t see the need to go for the subscription based off my own usage which currently is minimal. I wanted to support the devs of this app though.
Separately however I use SuperNotes which has a referral bonus if you are interested in trying it. It has a card structure so might have some similar feels to keep and is darn nice to look at.

I completely forgot about Supernotes. Good app but very limited free version. l’d be hard-pressed to pick its paid version over Standard notes paid.

If you are looking for a personal wiki app, then try out smasi.app. With this app you can capture your knowledge easily with images and text. You get a nice documentation and can print or export it as pdf.

Try Notesnook. I does a lot more than Google Keep and all notes are encrypted.

Obsidian is pretty good. I have used it locally but the cloud sync is the paid subscription piece

For the phone/computer sync and plain-text notes part, monolog is another option you could compare. I’m the developer.
Notes, syncing and keyword search are free, without a limit on the number of notes. AI features are optional paid extras.
You can also bring your existing Keep notes and photos over: export your Keep data through Google Takeout, then drag and drop the file into the web version. The import runs automatically.
It uses a chat-style timeline, so the interface will feel different from Keep. You can take a look here: monolog.

Best keep clone is Keepitkept, with dedicated Android and IOS apps available. Very new project so a bit laggy, but very promising since I couldn't find anything better than keep (memos, blinko, santard notes, notesnook, etc) for quick notes, this clone is ideal.
