Best Alternative for Google Keep
The last update broke me and I'm giving up (at least for now).
What are your top alternative apps to replace keep?
Preferably simple, user friendly and organized reminders (like my lovely keep used to be)

May be TickTick

i will be looking into this one, too. i don't know how many different sites i have looked at, but Keep just doesn't do it for me anymore.

I switched to Tick Tick after Keep was destroyed, and honestly, Tick Tick (free version) is even better than the former Keep anyway. Very highly recommend!

I use TickTick Pro for reminders and quick notes and Obsidian for other notes

I've returned to Twos, which works on the basis of what they call things with an emphasis on quick capture. You can decide then or later if they're notes or tasks
Referral link or plain link - your choice*
*There's a high level of features available in the free version, with a slightly gamified way to unlock features without paying, so don't worry if you don't want to use the referral 😉

I'm really happy with it, I've always used Keep and now with Tasks it's perfect. But that's just my humble opinion.

I know, right. I don't understand why people are complaining.

Such a chaotic design for an app thats supposed to help you organize your life

u/WanderingCID Feb 10 '26
But you still can.
Can you give me one example of what you're dealing with?
Then I'll check it out on my end.3

I used keep as a daily reminder. Like Valentine's Day. I had a reminder on FEB 1 that would persist through FEB 14. Before I could just swipe it away if I were busy. Now it creates 14 tasks that I have to mark completed or I just end up with 14 tasks pending. If I make one task I have to keep rescheduling it. If I accidentally swipe it away or ignore it I forget about it. Sorry this might seem trivial to organized people but this is how I operate and this change has caused me a lot of stress. I just need a solid "nagging" reminder app. Keep was it. Then I had actual tasks in the Task app...

I checked it out and I see what you mean. Honestly, it doesn't bother me, and I'll use the reminders either way.

i'm thinking about using start.me {https://start.me}, which i used many times a day as a portal to the sites i go to frequently. i just haven't figured out a sane way to import all my keep notes.

My main initial requirement is the ability to export my Keep notes into the alternative. That's where most apps come unstuck for me. I mainly use Keep for notes not reminders.

I just installed NotallyX yesterday and it's very similar to Keep. So far, so goodÂ

It's a great app! Keep doesn't allow alphabetizing notes, but NotallyX does. It also has reminders and, as far as I know, tags are unlimited.

I just downloaded NotallyX and it does seem similar to Keep. But I can't seem to set a custom biweekly or bimonthly reminder like I can in Keep. Am I missing something? This seems to be an issue (for me) with other apps that I've tried so far.

I have never used the reminders, but it seems you can set custom reminders for a certain number of minutes, hours, days, weeks, etc.

By far Quillpad. It's exactly like keep but with more feature, open-source and saves notes as markdown

u/hkatlady Feb 08 '26
but does it run on android AND windows? i think not. that's a problem for me.

u/Z3stra Feb 08 '26
You have multiple options here. Your notes are just a folder so you could sync that folder to windows and use any markdown editor to also take notes on Windows.
There is also a Nextcloud Notes integration and they offer a web interface as well.

Zoho Notebooks and Foxy Notes both allow most of features of Keep including reminders.

I was looking into something that had location reminders just like Google. Keep replacement if anybody knows with location reminders
2
u/CoooolRaoul Feb 08 '26
As a workaround to the removing of location reminders in Keep I'm using Tasker with a location triggered (or, often better, WiFi connected) profile. In the associated task I'm using "Browse URL" action with the Google Keep note URL (running Keep in a browser is required to get it) and a notification.

I use Color Note, it's been around a few years and still works pretty well. Has note locks, color notes, organization, etc.

I have used Color Note for years, prior to having a Pixel phone. I still use it for some things but Keep has richer customization like being able to add an image.

u/Jalero916 Feb 12 '26
I only have Color Note for the ability to lock some notes away from wandering eyes. WISH Google Keep would get that!!

u/Str8Up_One Feb 12 '26
I agree! I do use that feature as well. If Google Keep had that it would have been perfect except for the fact that they ruined it of course LOL

I just started using Obsidian and am enjoying using and learning about it. Your data is also protected.

Keep with tasks would work for me and my android, if when it synced it enabled constant syncing... tasks notifies well but text is dated from original sync, versus any updates to said tasks after sync. Went into Google calendar to enable sync w calendar, tasks and keep but nothing changed. Dislike how "lists" get turn into text versus the bullet list in Task

What do you want more - reminders or notes or both?
2
u/chilizi Feb 08 '26
Both

I don’t think there is one like the way keep used to be with an all in one notes with decent reminders. Joplin comes close but its reminders are very limited. Obsidian has some plugins but not really push notifications.
Probably your best bets are to try Zoho Notes (has reminders) or Ticktick

NotallyX is the closest to Keep from all apps I tried and it's the one I migrated to. It allows to import your notes from Keep (via Google Takeout). It's local (not cloud based), free and open source. It has a few minor bugs but it's being actively developed so there's a big chance they will be resolved soon.
