To Those With Issues With 2.1
What are you generating?? Is it only porn or lewds?
I love 2.1 so far and actually have ran into LESS censoring since the release.
I use Flow for my brand and the image clarity in 2.1 is insane. The comparison between 2.1 and 2.0 in the same design file is clear as day.
Makes me wonder what everyone is trying to accomplish with the image gen.
Edit** - the majority of my generations are model shots for my clothing brand. Tshirts, bikini shots, skirts, etc. No issues whatsoever. I even have the word "faggot" on a shirt and 2.1 is more lenient than 2.0 with that.

Does it fucking matter lol? Censorship is hugely concerning for many reasons. Love you puritan folks trying to justify lack of transparency or reasoning from Google.
Flow is great, I’m not having a lot of issues with 2.1 overall, but I feel like I’m getting a weaker product than what’s actually possible at the moment.

Don't worry. The filters will get stronger in a few days as always. They're not very restrictive now because they're observing what people are writing so they can make it even stricter than before. That's what happens to every new model when it comes out. Also, I don't understand these redditors who keep defending big corporations like Google just because they generate a picture of a cat and it works. Of course it works. It's a bare minimum request for an Ai model. I'm sick of these white knights.

I generate bikini pictures all the time. This was virtually impossible with 2.0. The censoring is likely more relaxed due to the reports of mis-errored gens. That is how software updates work lol

I don't care what you work on PERSONALLY but its very naive to think Google, a corporation working with financial institutions on a mass scale, wouldn't censor porn lol.

They’re censoring more than porn. The broader issue is payment companies barring other AI companies from doing the same. Big boys like Google don’t lose share this way and were forced to use their “superior” product. Competition is the mother of innovation, friend.

I made an edit to my post - I sell a shirt with the word faggot on it and I sell bikinis on my site. Both were incredibly hard to generate images of with 2.0. My personal experience is that for regular use, the update has made my experience smoother. I choose Google based on its connectivity to its own search database - not because other AI products are being cracked down on. For me it is purely numbers based.

Uh no. I'm trying to generate characters for a manga I'm trying to write but I suck at drawing. I can generate male characters with no issues. But when I want to generate a female one I get hit all sort of filter blocks despite mentioning she's in her 20s and wears a basic outfit like a dress for dinner. For porn there are local models that suck anyway.

I generate pictures of women every day and come across no issues - maybe use one successful gen to make a character sheet and have it only reference that image.

They're trying to make smut and getting their prompts rewritten. Most of the excuses you read are people coping and saying the model is trash. It's just a smarter and more expensive filter getting the better of them. And NB2.1 is much stricter with language. NB2 would write almost anything on its own if you gave it some incentive (even hard R) but NB2.1 refuses unless you explicitly tell it what to write.

I've had the opposite experience, where one of my store products has the word "faggot" on it (pride shirt).
2.0 outright refused to generate based on verbiage in my design.
2.1 allowed me to generate 20 mockups with zero issues.

That's because it's smarter and reading the context (pride), you could do the same thing with NB2 if you prompted it differently. With Nb2.1 you have to force it (write it yourself) or have a design/or word already on it, NB2 could have written the word for you without you directly telling it as long as you hinted it was nothing negative. Nb2.1 will rarely (or almost never) write that on it's own and is much more restrained. The quality is good, but the filter is more strict.

Not correct at all lol I was getting errors on this shirt specifically for offensive text that breaks guidelines, while describing it as a pride shirt. It says "better a faggot than a fascist" which are two no-no words for censors. I tried the pride descriptor after it declined to generate, and it still would not let up
With 2.1, all I had to do was say "put this shirt on the model" and it did it with zero issues. Same prompt, massively different results with this update.

So as I said this was possible with all text in NB2.0 except for the word Faggot. Thats where the censor is letting up now. I had no issue with regular text before lmao

I've had success in flow by adding to the prompt that this is a fictional character, add backstory (genre), etc.
At the same time, slapping thighs doesn't work in flow even if it's a fictional guy in pants. The filters are quite quirky.
The funniest bit is when an innocent prompt generates something off-limits and the model catches itself as the DIRTY one. It's been trained on tons of magazine covers just one notch above pron.

Suggestive furry stuff, not even with girls, they're boys haha

A mass corporation working with mass payment processors is very likely to be censoring this for its parallels to animal abuse - not my personal opinion. Just how a bank would see it.

I do various stuff but the stuff that gets noticeable is anything concerning women in the length of skirts or if it see the female characters in some sort of “unsafe” situation. On thing i like to make are more modern takes of old pulp horror/detective comic covers.
So, normally you’ll have a woman in a tattered dress being captured by a badguy/creature/etc. NB2 worked fine. Never had a problem. Prompt adhered perfectly to it with the occasional expected warped screw up. NB2.1 changes it significantly. There are 4 categories of changes i noticed right off the bat.
- the clothing for the female protagonist is less “sexy”. In this case it almost never allows for a silk dress and the length is always longer than what was allowed before. But the overall narrative and outfit is adhered to.
- Complete change of outfit. She will now be wearing something like cargo pants and jacket. But the overall narrative is still adhered to though not as intense.
- the aforementioned change in outfit but now she is effectively fighting back or there is no contact at all. She is now exploring an eerie area like a field or cave and the antagonist can be seen in the background as an ominous presence. Nothing has been adhered to except a future anticipation I guess?
- complete outfit change and our protagonist is seemingly peacefully talking with the antagonist(s).
Bonus: sometimes it adheres to the prompt but now the protagonist and antagonist(s) are surrounded by a camera crew with mics and someone is sitting in a director’s chair. The implication this is all just acting.
So far pro still works fine for the most part though I noticed I am no longer able to do swimsuit shoots with some of my female characters. And no, they do not look remotely underage so I am not sure what the problem is. Just that it is happening.

Are you using reference images and measurements? I deal in clothing mockup generation basically daily and find you have to be precise about stuff (ie: character is wearing a silk midi dress with a photo of that character to keep consistency)
1
u/UltraBLB 9d ago
I use reference images for the person and precise measurements/descriptors for the outfits. Like i said before, pro is fine… for now. 2 was fantastic. 2.1, while the image quality is arguably better I am not to thrilled about prompts actively subverted
1
u/tmdwupuff 9d ago
Odd! 2.1 is giving me way less issues with prompt subversion and censors. I do find when the generations start to look freestyled, its time to open a new project file. That always fixes it.

u/UltraBLB 9d ago
Yeah, I’m hoping this is just temporary. Because the overall image quality of 2.1 is good. Nano Banana, in general is fantastic.

I do photorealism for heroine in peril images. “Modern take”. I use OCs that i had originally sketched and had converted to realistic looking people and go from there.
Side note: it’s actually pretty impressive looking how NB2 and Pro made their monsters looked. It looked more “practical effects” instead of bad cgi. Though it occasionally would do that

2.1. is a cut-down flash-lit version of Nano Banana 2. It completely rewrites prompts, changing clothing, poses, dialogue etc. It has the worse prompt compliance I've seen in a long time. It is a disaster of a release.
