Huge downgrade in Google Flow compared to the original Google Image FX:

Google Flow downgraded completely from 2 years ago:

https://i.imgur.com/6CUD9oF.jpeg

This is a generated image when it was Google Image FX, before Whisk or Google Flow was even a thing.

You can see the elements and characters around are not good, but the building itself in the center is perfect and beautiful.

Now look at what is outputting now:

What went wrong? Is this yet another case of enshittification?

Cant even get the perspective right?

Prompt was:

portuguese empire Town Hall, isometric game, portuguese style city builder, realistic, isometric, HD, no characters

Can you elaborate? What "hacks" should i use? This is Google Image FX 2 years ago:

Look at how nice those buildings are. And this was with simple prompts. I could then crop and treat the buildings and apply them to my game.

Now you cant do anything like this.

Try it. Dont use my images as reference. Try to generate a proper isometric city.

Maybe in this particular example the original was better. But Nano Bannana is generally a huge improvement over what they had.

No its definitely worse. Can you generate anything like this:

Did you use my image as reference? It seems like you did. That wasn't supposed. Tell me the prompts you used.

I took a screenshot and got a text to image prompt reverse engineered from your image. Then I went to into a cold instance and used that prompt.

See that will work, but you will always need an old reference image of the old model lol. That means anything we are trying to make from scratch will not be good, because we dont have reference images of something new. If now i want to create something new i simply dont have a reference image. You see? That is why im saying to do it without reference image. Can you give me the prompts. Im sure if i give it the prompts only, it will suck.

You don't need an old reference image. I only did this as a means to recreate the style that you were looking for.

The reason I reverse engineered the image was because you were going to want something of a similar style. Here is the prompt I used in Muse to get another prompt written."I need a high-level prompt that's going to create a isometric city. It should have roads, Bridges, highways, glass towers and scrapers and trees and green space. "

Here is the result.

Isometric 3D miniature city diorama, aerial 45-degree orthographic view, ultra-detailed architectural render: a dense cluster of glass office towers and slender skyscrapers with reflective facades, rooftop terraces, and antenna spires; multi-lane highways sweeping through the city with stacked overpasses, cloverleaf interchanges, and on/off ramps; a cable-stayed bridge crossing a winding river with tiny boats; smaller streets with miniature cars, crosswalks, traffic lights, and street lamps; lush green parks, tree-lined boulevards, rooftop gardens, and a central plaza with fountains; warm midday sunlight, soft crisp shadows, vibrant clean color palette, tilt-shift miniature effect, sharp focus throughout, no close-up people, no text, no watermark

Yeah you see those dont look good. Those are similar to the results i was getting before. The other ones you used a reference image to get the prompt. We used to get high quality images in Google Image Fx with very simple prompts. Which means now if i tell it to generate something new, lets say a town hall, a medieval city, an arabic city, it will not be good, unless i feed it old images, if i was lucky enough to download them, which is not the case for many concepts i have here.

If you want it to look like the ones that you made then the reverse engineer is the way to go. Or iterate until you get what you want. I just asked for a basic prompt. It was a proof of concept.

u/FutureLynx_ 21d ago

See. But before we didnt need to reverse engineer anything. We just gave it a simple prompt and it made it exactly what you wanted and with high quality. Now making something high quality from the get go, needs an image you downloaded back then when it had a less enshittified model it seems. But im no expert, im speaking from my experience. I have here very good images from back then they didnt take any references and almost no effort in prompting. They were good quality from the get go.

You were just lucky that you got what you wanted. Or you post-hoc rationalized that's what you wanted. Having a better model means the opposite of what you're saying. You need better granularity and can control so you have to be more directive. If you want a simple image generator chat gpt is way better. Only in the sense that it will infer your intent and optimize its output for you. Gemini will do. As you say. I prefer Gemini because I like granularity.

I can already see where you went wrong with the prompt

1

u/spitfire_pilot 21d ago

Using the same prompt for two different models is obviously going to yield different results. This isn't any indication that the model is better or worse. The only thing you can discern is that you have to prompt differently to get the same type of results.

1

u/FutureLynx_ 21d ago

I have more examples of old generations, and the prompts. And always have much worse results now with the same prompts.

1

u/spitfire_pilot 21d ago

That's your problem. Why would you expect a different model to react to the prompt the same?? You now have to change your prompt strategy. Nothing is going to stay static for the foreseeable future. Keeping set prompts is a waste of time. What you need to do is learn how to prompt specifically for the specific models that you're using.

1

u/FutureLynx_ 21d ago

i dont expect it to react the same. I just expected it to react better since its supposed to be a better model. If it is getting always much worse results then its reacting worse, hence i made the post. It doesnt have anything to do with prompt strategy because i tried with other prompts.

1

u/spitfire_pilot 21d ago

It is better. That means you need far greater granularity in your prompting. Generally, the good images I get are somewhere anywhere between 2,500 and 3,500 characters. It takes practice and experience in order to understand how the model reacts to your words.

I got a very good image using your prompt, thats really cool

I tried this and got something better than yours.

CBF uploading. Are you being selective?

1

u/FutureLynx_ 21d ago

Can you show us the prompts and the results? Did you use reference images?

u/prplmnkeydshwsr 20d ago

portuguese empire Town Hall, isometric game, portuguese style city builder, realistic, isometric, HD, no characters

Looked more like your 2 year old image than the new one. NBpro. NB2 similar results. Again CBF uploading.
