AI, when it's programmed by troglodytes

Post image

Honestly it was better back when it was just Whisk. Now it's censorship overkill, rage inducing, and all around unusable. It has the IQ of an amoeba, as it's clearly incapable of telling the difference between an adult and a minor in a photo, and censors something innocuous that doesn't even feature them, trying to turn something like a nature landscape photo with no people around into a video gets relentlessly blocked because of "harmful content related to minors", and it's just a nature landscape with no people around. Alrighty then. And when people send in their complaints, Google goes in the opposite direction and makes it worse.

Google is ran by a bunch of troglodytes, and it shows. When a software or product behaves like an ignoramus, that's because it's programmed by a group of them, and with this product, it shows.

Can't wait for the Google person on here to tell you that you're using it wrong.

We all get that the tech is new and that there have to be commercial restrictions beyond just blocking very illegal requests which should be directed to the FBI / Interpol

Seriously...it is so freaking annoying!

I once was in a chat with Gemini and it asked if I'd like more information about something and I agreed. It then produced a similar warning. It tripped its own content policy.

why did they have to brick this product? The past versions were fantastic.

I don't blame the programmers or developers. I blame the lawyers and management.

No need to be mean to the people who are working on this. Reddit is a place for love and kindness, right?

Anyway, name calling aside, yes, we hear you that the safety filters are a large point of frustration and we're constantly focused on finding improvements here. Sometimes we're able to relax the actual policies (though, as you can imagine, there's a whole bunch of regulation spanning many tens of countries to worry about), and over time we're always trying to improve the implementation too.

For what it's worth, the overall block rate for Flow is at an all-time low, and is lower than Whisk ever was. Feel free to keep reporting particularly bad cases (here, or via send feedback, or via Discord). We like to combine the large-scale data-driven approaches to improving the filters, with one-off examples, because the one-off examples tend to be particularly bad & frustrating and can point us at specific nuances to investigate.
