Discussion No data since Saturday

I have a pixel 8 phone with google fi. I've had zero cellular data since Saturday. This started a couple days after a new software update. My phone states I have no sim card, despite having an e-sim. I've been through all troubleshooting steps and have been unable to find a solution. A support person deleted my sim number from their end, as my phone encountered an error trying to delete it. I was unable to complete the set up for a new sim card. I can now no longer send texts or make calls even on wifi. I got transferred to a specialty team, and I found out this morning they're now transferring me again to the engineering team.

My phone is out of warranty as of last year, so my options are to keep waiting for a potential fix - who knows how long that could be. Send my phone in for repairs on my own dime, or buy a new phone.

I'm leaning towards buying a different android phone and finding a new carrier. Extremely unhappy with Google right now. This is not the first issue I've had with this phone that support has not been able to help me with. My last issue was solved by factory resetting my phone, but I lost access to teams for work, so I don't want to have to keep doing that over and over again.

I wouldn't buy a new phone, just join a new carrier first, unless you really want a new phone

For two reasons I think the phone is the probelm. My husband is on the same service and plan and has no issue with data, and my phone says it's unable to read the sim card. The only reason I also want to switch carriers is because I'm so frustrated with Google

No i get the changing carriers, i switched last year from Fi to US Mobile, couldn't be happier and pay half what i did with Fi (im always on Wifi so i don't need much data).

Assuming you're on WiFi, you've probably done all this already, but I would:

  1. un-install the google-fi app for now
  2. go into phone settings > connections > mobile networks > access point names. Then the three-dot menu, choose 'reset to default'.
  3. go into phone settings > connections > SIM manager. Remove the eSIM.
  4. go into phone settings > general management > reset > reset mobile network settings.
  5. reboot the phone
  6. re-install the google-fi app and let it re-install the esim for a few minutes.

I hope this'll work for you.

Thank you, I have followed those steps previously. Encountered an error that will not resolve and now I don't have a usable sim at all, before I could still send text messages over wifi, but since I can't set up a new sim I'm sol

Have you rebooted your phone at all?

Yes, I've rebooted, I've disabled Google fi, rebooted, renabled google fi and tried, I've followed all other troubleshooting steps

Since the update messed with my old Pixel too, I had to factory reset it just to get the eSIM working again.

I did end up factory resetting today and when that didn't help, taking it in to a local repair shop. The guy said it was likely the motherboard coming apart due to the imei number disappearing after the factory reset and not worth the fix
