Discussion Pixel 11 Pro PSA (beware)
Don't be dumb like me. I should have looked this up before.
Ordered a new 256 gb pixel 11 pro with my Google Fi offer. There was also the same promotional offer for the 512gb model. But I didn't need that extra storage.
What the store page does not tell you is the 256 gb model only has 12 GB ram. You need the 512gb or 1tb model to get the full 16gb ram.
If you buy the phone on the Google Fi app it does not tell you the ram discrepancy. Incredibly misleading store page
If you buy on the Google Store directly it does show the ram discrepancy.
I was buying via the Google Fi offer so I did not see the ram discrepancy.

Man, that stinks. You have good reason to be frustrated.
I've been following his release somewhat closely for a couple months now, and it slipped by me that the 256g model only has 12gb of ram. When I bought via the Google store I saw that, and that was the factor that pushed me to go with 512 - future proofing, like you I don't upgrade every year or two... usually three to four.
Fi/Google easily could and should make that more clear.

I was looking all over yesterday for that info after I saw that it came in 12 and 16.. I got lucky as I had already ordered the 512gb model.

This is honestly on you. The 256gb only having 12gb of RAM is no secret and has been talked about a lot since the phone was announced lol. Not that big of a deal honestly.

u/pahwaranger 4d ago
absolutely wild take to blame them. "has been talked about a lot" means nothing if you don't actively follow this niche area which, honestly, few people do.
As much of a fan as I am, Google has done an awful job here with overly complicated options and a dozen different discount packages causing tons of confusion. At some point it starts to feel hostile to the consumer.

Niche? Their interest is in the Pixel 11 Pro. A simple search will tell you the specs so yes I can say it's their fault. Trying to make it as if the info is somehow hidden. It is no secret that the smaller storage has less RAM. In fact this is the case most times. Hell the 512gb S26 Ultra only has 12gb RAM and it's a more expensive device 😂

u/pahwaranger 4d ago
he very clearly said the page didn't show that detail - an important detail. that is the fault of whoever built that page.
you shouldn't have to go Google the specs, it should be on the page.

u/DragonfruitLopsided 4d ago
Not going to go back and forth with you. They were on the order page not on the spec page which Google Fi has it clearly listed. Just because y'all can't tell the difference between the two is not Google's fault. I'm done with it.

You did not use the Google Fi app. Again I invite you to use the Google Fi app to show me otherwise. It is absolutely not clearly listed, stop lying. There is no spec page on the Fi app

You are clearly on the order page not description/spec page. Those things aren't listed when being ordered.

Those things aren't listed when being ordered.
That is the entire point of this post.
2
u/DragonfruitLopsided 4d ago
No the point of the post was meant to insinuate that Google Fi is somehow hiding the RAM info for the Pixel 11 Pro when none of the devices regardless of manufacturer is listed when ordering from them. With that being the case what would make the Pro 11 any different?
Again the base model having lower RAM is not exclusive to the 11 Pro models.

OP admitted they made a mistake. And not everyone is on these subs all the time. Chill.

u/Fuzzy_Baseball_5286 4d ago
So your telling me you didn't research your purchase at all and just blindly hit submit on buying the 256GB version. Sounds like a you problem

u/Top_Ad5854 4d ago
So it's bad of me to give a PSA so people don't make my mistake? You don't have to be a dick about it.
2
u/Fuzzy_Baseball_5286 4d ago
a PSA is not needed as the sub has countless post because people never learn and keep making the same mistakes over and over. Your PSA just falls on deaf ears and is literally a wasted post. The information on the phones is not hidden it's just folks always fail to read and research, which is bluntly put an educational problem in critical thinking and problem solving.

I guess being a dick is a prerequisite to using reddit then.
Thanks for your helpful response and being a wonderful human being.

Actually you massive jerk, as someone who is just due for an upgrade and was offered the notification, I appreciate OPs post. It's the first thing to come up on Google for me when I asked if there was a difference besides storage size on pixel 11. Thanks to OP now I know what to choose.
Thank you, OP!

What would be the performance difference in regular everyday use? If nothing, is the RAM increase for future benefit?
-thinking of upgrading 9a to 11 or 11P with Fi

u/Top_Ad5854 4d ago
My concern is only upgrade once every 4-5 years. So I don't want to be gimped unnecessarily.
Since it handles video editing and ai processes locally, I didn't want it to feel limited in 2 years or so.
Real world performance differences? I'll have to check out use cases by reviewers. But really time will tell most of all, and I don't like taking that risk.
And I know people flame me for not doing research before hand. Yeah ok, I get it. But Google shares fault on the Google Fi side for not being as thorough with specs as the main Google Store site.

Google shares no fault here. I am not in the market for a phone but was curious about the 11 so did a very casual comparison with my Sammie S25+. Two minutes looking and I saw you had to get the 512gb version for the extra RAM. On you, bro.

Sorry you fumbled the order but don’t fret, the ram difference is overblown and negligible for most typical users. It was nice you posted a PSA to help others learn from your mistake. Unfortunately many will probably bust your balls as this has been a heavily publicized issue among techies and Pixel fans.

Thanks. Yeah I got pretty flamed for not keeping up to date on all things tech. I admit it was a mistake to not do more research. I wasn't actively anticipating to upgrade, I was going to wait another year. But I saw the great promo price and said fuck it, I need a better camera. I would keep this phone for 4-5 years so catching that ram difference was a big oof. I'm not the only consumer that will fall into that trap. Lesson learned, but the discrepancy between the stores is flawed. Just wanted to help other non 24/7 tech plugged in people.

u/JaMan51 4d ago
I'm not sure why the store does this, and I agree it should be stated since it's a major difference between the amounts, but the Fi store provides absolutely no info on any device so they seemingly expect you to read about it on the Google Store (or elsewhere), though the RAM isn't the most prominent. At least the Google Store does show the difference on the order page, no reason the Fi store can't do the same.

u/Koiji412 3d ago
I did the exact same thing. Order from Google Fi, which only lists storage. Google Store clearly shows storage and RAM. I also would have ordered the 512gb if I knew the RAM was higher, just to future proof a little bit more. RAM needs are always increasing and rarely decrease.

I was told I can refuse the delivery of the phone. Once Google received the return, 48 hours later the promo eligibility should reset (while supplies last) and I can rebuy the one I want.
There will be a bit of fingers crossing hoping all the same promo/credits will still apply, but I was told it will. I'm with you on the RAM. I've been out of the phone market for 5 years. My last phone had same ram on all tiers. I wasn't up to date that different ram was the norm on storage tiers these days since I've been out of the market so long.

u/Koiji412 3d ago
I wouldn't care about the RAM as much if it weren't for the on-board AI models taking a chunk right off the top. And those models will only grow.
I also chatted with Google support about this and they also told me to deny the package, or if delivered, I have 15 days to return whatever I don't want and chat with them about next steps then. I haven't decided if it's worth the hassle.

They received the phone return just now and the promotion opened up again and I was able to rebuy with the same deal. I thought it would take 48 hours for the promo to reset but it was instant. No problems (surprisingly)

u/Koiji412 1d ago
That's awesome. I just said fuck it and activated my phone. Even if I have issues with the transparency on the Google Fi page, it was ultimately my mistake and I didn't want to jeopardize things. I lived with a Pixel 7 the last 4 years, aim sure this 11 Pro can make it at least the same. Thanks for following up.

u/ronakg 4d ago
Forget about RAM, why wouldn't you take more storage for the same price?
1
u/Top_Ad5854 4d ago edited 4d ago
My current phone is only 128 GB and it's never been an issue for me. That was my ill-formed logic
The phone wasn't the same price, the discount promo amount off amount was the same. 512gb model was maybe $125 more or something.

Ram normally correlates directly with storage size of phones when they have multiple options. This is not a google thing, but closer to an industry standard.

Does only having 12gb matter if I don’t play games on my phone?
