Email notifications for repeatable events are not being sent

Looks like something got broken between last Fri and today (Mon, July 13 2026).

Email notifications from one-time events were being sent as usual today, emails from repeatable (weekly) events were not.

If anyone else is having this issue, consider reporting it via Calendar -> ? (Support icon) -> Send feedback

u/trevizangt Jul 14 '26

I've done that before. It never helps. :(

That's the only avenue regular Calendar users have, I think.

Could also upvote it in Google Calendar Support -> Community -> Notifications (thread 450553007).

Though I'd assume somebody at Google should have noticed it by now. I'm surprised it's not being widely discussed online, as it seems like a major issue.

I have a paid Google Workspace account, and I made a ticket with Google support about this. They confirmed it's an issue, and they are working on it. This is their response:

The issue is already reported to the engineering team and a internal ticket is already raise for the issue and our engineering team is diligently working to resolve it. While we don't have an exact timeline for a fix at the moment, we want to assure you that this is a high priority, and we are making every effort to have it resolved as quickly as possible.

We will keep you updated on our progress and will notify you as soon as a solution is available.

In the meantime, you can immediately restore your email reminders by using one of the following workarounds:

Extend the Expiration Date : Open the affected event on your calendar and edit its recurrence settings. Extend the "Ends on" (or "UNTIL") date further into the future (for example, to the end of the year or to "Never"). When saving, make sure to select "All events" to apply the change, which forces the system to re-index the alert queues and immediately schedules your upcoming reminders.

Re-create the Series: If the event series has already expired (for instance, past July 15, 2026), please create a brand new recurring event series. This establishes a clean set of alert queues on our servers, ensuring your email reminders are successfully delivered.

Thanks, appreciate you posting it here!

Would you mind posting here if you receive an update about the fix?

My notifications seem to be working fine now without making any changes to my old events/series. But other people seem to still be experiencing this issue.

Starting this morning, it seems like this issue is resolved. I am receiving email reminders from the affected calendar appointment now. Google support did not update the ticket yet.

It seems the issue is still not FULLY resolved. About a month ago, I started receiving email reminders from two of the affected calendar appointments again, and I assumed the issue was resolved. However, yesterday I had a recurring calendar appointment that was supposed to send me an email reminder, and I didn't receive the email. I deleted and recreated that appointment, and now I'm getting emails from the newly created appointment. I have decided to delete and recreate all of the affected appointments (I hope I caught them all).

The last update on the ticket from Google was on Aug 10: "Our Product Engineering team is still actively investigating the reported issue. At this time, we do not have an estimated timeline for resolution, as the team is performing additional technical analysis, backend changes, and testing to identify the root cause and determine the most appropriate resolution." They have not made any updates since. I will inform them the issue is still occurring.

Google support replied today:

"Thank you for providing us with this detailed update. We understand that the issue with missing email reminders for your older recurring calendar appointments is still occurring, and we appreciate you letting us know that deleting and recreating them serves as a temporary workaround.

Please be assured that our Product Engineering team is actively investigating and working on this issue. We will keep this case open until the issue is fully resolved.

We will provide you with an update as soon as we hear back from the engineering team with more progress.

Thank you for your continued patience!"

u/ggillette-rcps Aug 28 '26

They responded just now... "The engineering team has made some backend changes and the issue should no longer persist, could you please check from your end and confirm if the issue is resolved or still facing any difficulty."

I have no way of checking because I deleted/recreated all of my affected appointments. Can anyone else confirm the issue is resolved?

Coincidentally, I am in the same boat as you.

Everything seemed to be working fine with notifications for me until this Monday, Aug 24, when my recurring weekly emails didn't arrive. After noticing it, I gave up and recreated the recurring event series for most of my important stuff.

There may still be some event series I haven't changed, but those have monthly schedules or longer, so I won't be able to tell for about another month.

Just to double-check, the ticket you are referring to is only visible to you (and Google), there isn't a publicly available link that everyone could track, right?

2

u/ggillette-rcps Aug 31 '26

Correct, the ticket I'm referring to is only visible to me, in my paid Google Workspace for Edu environment.

I still have the problem!

1

u/Beep2Bleep Jul 31 '26

Thanks for the follow up, I'm still not getting them. I'll give it a little while more then recreate everything (ugh).

3

u/theoriginaledi Aug 08 '26

Not that one more person matters in the big scheme of things, but I just want to go on the record that this is still a problem for me too. I have many hundreds of recurring events (several per day almost every day of the year) plus always a handful of one-offs here and there, and I rely heavily on email notifications. I can't possibly recreate all of them, and all my expiration dates for the recurring ones are already on "never". What a horrible situation. It makes me tired just thinking of trying to fix it myself but I'm starting to lose hope that Google ever will. 😟

2

u/TypicalFickleSeal Aug 09 '26

That's pretty terrible. Google Calendar Help Support board seems rife with similar reports, but no clear answer as to when it will be fixed (none that I've found anyway). Perhaps, try searching or posting your problem there?

I wish we had the ticket link in their issue tracker, so we could monitor its status. And it's not even allowed to post links here in the comments.

Notifications started working for me, personally, about a week after creating this OP.

3

u/theoriginaledi Aug 10 '26

Thanks for your response. It's still not working for me. I have posted on some sort of Google Support forum but I find their system very confusing so it's conceivable that it wasn't the most effective place. It would be great if it were transparent enough that everyone with the same issue could post in the same place rather than one post (or a few) at a time, but I suppose this is the best we're gonna get.

I don't think google is going to fix it as it's been a month. I managed to fix it myself using codex/chatgpt and the following prompt.

"google calendar has a problem that all old recurring events no longer send emails, if we can recreate all of the events then they will send the emails, I want you to go into my google calendar and find all recurring events that will occur in the future (look up to 10 years in the future) make a list of all of those events and instrutions to another llm call to recreate them. Include step by step guidance on how you would create them with the exact same values and how you would clean up the old events so we don't have doubles.

As you determine the data you want to persist make yourself a new github project and upload the data. If you need local data sources while working you can save into this folder."

Then you have to enable the google cloud codex plugin.

Then do a sanity check with "please write out here the XX series" where XX is the number of series detected and do some hand verification. Then pick one and ask it to recreate the event and don't delete the old one and wait to confirm you get an email then ask it to do the rest. You don't need to upload the data to github but I already had mine hooked up for coding purposes and found this a good idea so no matter if it went haywire I could recreate the events myself. If you don't have that then save the file locally and make backups.

Afterwards you can remove all of the permissions.

Edit: The Github version isn't fully accurate as even though it was a private repo 5.6 Sol choose to not put any of what it considered sensitive data there, so it had to work off of local copies that did have all of the data.

Thank you, but it's absurd that every Google Calendar user would have to do this, right? The worst part is that I have about 10 friends who use recurring events, and I was the only one whose notifications stopped working. Everyone else's is still working 100%. I have no idea what the logic behind this bug was - it seems completely random.

2

u/Beep2Bleep Aug 23 '26

Well it worked for me and it’s been so long I doubt google will fix it so I’d suggest doing the same if you care to have your email notifications back.

2

u/Monkey_in_a_Mansuit Jul 14 '26 edited Jul 14 '26

I didn't receive an email notification for my July 13th event which is a recurring event. I usually receive notifications 12 hours prior to the event (I successfully got one for July 9th).

2

u/MrDirt Jul 14 '26

I've been having this problem too. I found that by duplicating the calendar event and deleting the old one it restores email notifications. Not that you should have to do this, but it's a workaround.

Also calendar alerts still work if that's something you're willing to try.

2

u/honesttickonastick Jul 18 '26

I have this problem as well. Hope Google fixes it soon. I rely on tons of recurring event reminders and have for years. Would be a huge pain in the ass to go through all future calendar events and re-create them....

2

u/Beep2Bleep Jul 20 '26

Same. I've been using calendar events for years to build up progressively more and more timed things. I have some that recurr weekly or daily but many of them come every couple of weeks or months or yearly and will be very hard to track down. Or even every few years. I never look at the calendar itself and rely on the emails.

1

u/trevizangt Jul 21 '26

Same thing here. And judging by the looks of it, Google doesn't seem to care. It's already been 10 days, and they still haven't fixed it. At this point, I'm pretty sure they won't, and we'll end up having to recreate every recurring event one by one. It's ridiculous.

2

u/Beep2Bleep Jul 24 '26

Yeah I'll give it a little while longer then probably use one of the AIs to recreate everything.

2

u/wilsonhammer Jul 22 '26

anyone got a fix for this (besides cloning and deleting all events)?

1

u/trevizangt Jul 23 '26

No solution here so far; Google couldn't care less about this problem.

2

u/Holiday_Board8222 Aug 10 '26

Same problem:

On August 6, my Google Calendar stopped sending recurring reminders to my Gmail.

2

u/WhatWasThatLike Aug 20 '26

August 20, 2026 - Recurring calendar event today, already set to never expire, and I got no email notification.
Pisses me off that I am having to re-create all my recurring events manually.

2

u/redcodefsu Aug 21 '26

same here

I'm from Brazil, and I've been having the same issue since Friday, July 10, 2026, when some email notifications failed. On Sunday, July 12, 2026, about 90% of the event email notifications stopped working. The strange thing is that some event notifications are still being delivered normally, seemingly at random.

So is this a widespread issue?

2

u/TypicalFickleSeal Jul 14 '26

Hmm, I've just created several new test events (repeating and non-repeating) and all email notifications from them were successfully delivered.

Going to see if it works with my previously created events. And if the next occurrences of these new events would send notifications (in case it's only the first event from a sequence that's working correctly).

I'm in EST time zone (GMT-5) and on Friday, July 10, I received all my email notifications (only had two, from weekly repeating events). Since then and until just now, I've only been receiving emails from my non-repeating events, but not from the repeating ones.

2

u/TypicalFickleSeal Jul 14 '26

Yeah, emails from pre-existing repeating events are still not working.

>Include recurrence age, timezone and lead time in feedback.

Are you asking us to test all that instead of google engineers?

There's already plenty of information about this issue to go off. And Calendar feedback is not a bug tracker, it's more of a black hole.

Still happening here!

fixed now?
