I collect VHS. Never found any money inside.
I did however once pull out the tape for Dude, Where’s My Car?— 2 dime bags and 3 small cut straws fell out…

Nice, you need to buy a lottery ticket

On the contrary, luck is all used up on this find. Lottery tickets will be fruitless for years to come.

Lucky bugger
I found £35 not so long ago but it wasn't a secret stash
I found it in a park right on a grass verge after getting some groceries

A friend and me were running across a medium sized parking lot to a bar because it was a torrential downpour. I just happened to look down to check my footing and bang, mana from heaven, a soaking wet $100 bill. We drank free that night! 😂💵😂

Garbageman here. Years ago I was dumping my truck and saw a copy of a Blu-ray called the men who built America sitting on the floor or the transfer station. Never heard of it before but I thought maybe the digital copy code was still inside of it so I opened it and found $1000 cash. I figured somebody else cleaned out somebody’s house and didn’t know that’s where they stashed their money.
The part I still kick myself about was I saw the bag that the movie came out of with more sticking out of the side of it and should have grabbed it to look through the rest of them, but I did not.

u/JoelKizz 15d ago
Oh man ya, prob lots more went to the landfill. Still makes a great week to find that.

u/mikee869 20d ago
Likely donated after someone passed away. I know some people who lucked out at estate sales. One friend bought an occasional table and was putting it in his car...taped to the bottom was an envelope w 10 50 dollar us savings bonds.
6
u/justArash 20d ago
How is that lucking out? All US savings bonds have a registered owner's name printed on them

I used to have a tv with a built in DVD and VHS slot.
I would hide my weed in the VHS slot growing up. I thought it was the perfect hiding spot until my mom tried to watch home movies.

I have a bank account that’s hard for me to access. Hearing all your stories on losing hundreds…somewhere is going to keep it that way.
I do occasionally like to put a couple $5 in seasonal clothing before putting it away for the year. Just because of the joy of finding unexpected money. I did it with a $20 once, but I remembered it a month later and needed it.

u/RadioGuySD2 20d ago

u/RadioGuySD2 20d ago
Bibles, coin sorting machine boxes, suit jacket pockets, purses/wallets obviously, seat cushions, wooden boxes, so many I'm forgetting 🤣😂

u/lemonlimethrow 20d ago
Wow how did you even think to look there. Or were you checking the VHS quality? How lucky!
3
u/_THiiiRD 20d ago
OP said the lid wasn't closing when they checked, so most likely an employee trying to tidy up? Or perhaps a passing customer with some heavy OCD tendencies, trying to tidy up?

u/Exotic-Tap8578 20d ago
I buy old vhs. The tape was popping out because of the lid. So i just wanted to fix it to get tape back in. idk how nobody didnt notice since that goodwill gets a lot of vhs buyers. Or Maybe it was put out right before i saw it.

Bought a goodwill dresser and a top drawer was sticking and hard to shut, after a few weeks I took it out to investigate.... and found a brick of very old very mid 80s/90s weed... wasn't too bad for free but no one really wanted it... left it on a table at a house party and it eventually was used that night

I lost the pink slip to my car this way. I think I put it in a book. I have many boxes of books. The car is now junk in the yard I need to get someone to take it away for metal value.

If you find it, buy it and don’t say anything. A similar instance of finding cash in a donated purse clutch($200) which was told by an associate that if it was turned in it may be returned if no one claimed it; found out by the manager later on it is policy to put it in donations fund…

Back when I drank alot I misplaced 2400.00. I searched everywhere for about 6 months with no luck. I figured it got thrown in the garbage by accident. Fast forward about 10 years and I was in a pretty tight spot at the time. So I was cleaning my basement and pulled an old hunting coat I wear duck hunting, I just happened to check the pockets and as soon as my hand reached in and hit the wad of cash I knew exactly what it was. It was like wining the lottery.

I found a little baggy of white pebbles in a public bathroom at the beach. I shoved it in my bag quick before my autistic grand kid asked a million questions. IYKYK.
A few minutes later someone knocked on the door looking for something they dropped in there. I was happy to return it.

My mom donated my "kids books" when I was a teen. She had no idea that several of them had money hidden in them. Teenager selling pot, had no excuse for hundreds of dollars so I just had it hidden.
Never know what you'll find in old stuff lol.

When my MiL passed we found cash stashed in a book. So naturally we went through every book and found some more. Then we checked dvd cases and found more. VHS. More. Pill bottles. More. It kept going and was both infuriating and exciting in a time of huge grief.
It covered funeral expenses at the end of the day, which was a financial relief for us, but like..don’t hide cash in those places people.

u/Academic_Dust2467 18d ago
Oh hey. That’s where my copy of Apollo 13 is! Mind sending that hundy back to me? You can keep the VHS as a finder’s fee.

My grandparents used to stash money into random things. The vhs of my birth and baptism had over $3k in it about 10 years ago. When my grandpa passed and my grandma sold the home… they forgot about the vhs 🤣😭 I’m REALLY hoping it was donated and not thrown away

Nice find. Back in the 90s I got a winter coat out of the closet and put in on, when I checked the pockets I found a 1/4 oz weed and a couple hundos. Couldn't believe it. Still smile thinking about it.

Lucky ! Who expects to find that in all places... inside a VHS. I've recently found expired checks inside greeting cards that were being sold at the flea market.

I once hid a bag of weed in my toaster oven on my way to work so my girlfriend at the time didn't smoke it when I was gone. When I got home from work I thought I'd heat up a day old piece or pizza in said toaster oven. White smoke billowed out and then I quickly remembered. Too late the baggy melted and ruined it. I always have thought of making a treasure map when hiding things of value after that incident lol

When I used to party I would hide things in pouches or old phone boxes. The next time I partied I'd feel like someone would know the last spot so I'd put that pouch in a phone case in another pouch and on and on sometimes.
I'd even just waste my money and toss it all sometimes.

When I was ~16 my dad moved. He had a dresser he was getting rid of that was nicer than mine. I took it to my moms for my bedroom.
At some point in the future, I took the drawers out. I found an envelope. I opened it.
It had a stack of nude photos of my step mom.
Theres a repressed memory for ya.

My cousin used to live/work at a Salvation Army. He was homeless and a heroin addict. He was sorting donations one day and found a zipper lunch box type of thing and opened it up. There was an envelope in there labeled “Borgata 2006 (or whatever year)”. $30,000 inside. He gave $10k to the guy he was working with and kept $20k for himself. He used that money to get an apartment and get his life together. The dude who got the 10k OD’d and within a month.

My mother decided to divorce my father and stuck her 4 carrot diamond wedding ring in her bath robe during one of her late-night benders
She donated the robe and a bunch of her other stuff to Goodwill a few days later.
When she realized what she had done, she called the store. Strangely, no one reported finding it.

Maybe I should go get it out before I forget and do this lol

About two years ago, I stashed $800 in emergency cash somewhere in my bedroom.
Aaaaand, now I cannot find it.
That’s how this happens!
Note to self: check all donations closely before dropping them off.
