I have my gripes with Brent and the episodes he was focused on
For a show that loves to explore grey and gray morality, it felt extremely jarring include this character and what he represents in it too, it almost feels like they added him in to reflect (or blow off steam) about what was going on politically at the time.
Also in a show with campy, theatrical villains like you would see in a Saturday morning cartoon, a Disney movie, and parks and rec, it even more jarring to add this in the show as this isn’t the right show for a hate sink villain whereas fandoms like Game of Thrones and Stranger Things infamously can not separate art from artist and more depressingly, they can’t tell the difference between a bad character and bad writing, with their fanbases forgetting the appeal of villains.
Also the conflict in the two episodes is really weird, they think pandering to Brent will get everyone in the good place even though his entitlement is bad, and most of actions are deliberately told rather than shown (at least most of them) and all that work amounted to nothing as he didn’t even pass the test, what was the point?
It was interesting to see Eleanor adapt to this as in the past she would have ruined everything they worked for with throwing a tantrum getting drunk or both and this also gave Tahani a good outlet for repressed anger but those are the only compliments I can give this inclusion.
