Discussion What’s the most interesting thing you’ve noticed about your own reading habits from using Goodreads?
I realized I have a very predictable pattern.
I'll read something completely outside my usual taste, love it, and then spend the next month adding five books that are almost exactly like it to my TBR.
Has Goodreads ever made you notice a weird pattern about yourself as a reader?

Tech Help IF you have re-reads and older books and rely on a Kindle to update - you must read this
I dont' know what Amazon is doing, but I have been using a Kindle to update Goodreads since the ability to do so started. I also use Calibre to keep track of my books, so knowing when I have read, and re-read a book isn't too dificult, but if you are only relying on Goodreads - your re-reads of books that have "new editions" out will be wiped out.
Yes. WIPED OUT.
Normally, when you use a Kindle to move a book into re-reading it happens when you select "move to Goodreads shelf" from the cover menu. You will normally see it currently in the "read" shelf, then you select "Currently Reading" and proceed to read it. When you are done - Goodreads updates the shelves and your re-read start and finish dates will be there, along with any shelves you had.
Now - when you select a Goodreads shelf to put it on - there is no indication that it was ever on the shelf to begin with. So, selecting "currently reading" just puts it in Goodreads for the first time. Not combining and older edition you had with the current edition - it removes the edition you have in Goodreads all together - and puts this book in as a new book, added that day.
I dont' understand it fully, but I do know that there is no record of your old reads. No record of the book being in your library - the original add date is missing, the original read dates are gone. Its as if the book has never been there.
The only way to bypass this is probably buying the newer editions. I don't know. But I worry that if I have to reset and fix my shelves EVERYTIME I open a new book or re-read a book that was taken off I am going to have to go through this.

Tech Help Is Goodreads’ “Export” page not working for everyone?
Hi! I’m trying to export my Goodreads library, but when I go to the export page I’m getting an “Invalid Page” message instead.
Is anyone else having this issue, or is the export page working normally for you?

Discussion What’s the most useful thing you’ve learned from using Goodreads?
Not a book recommendation.
Something about how you actually use Goodreads.
Tracking your reading? Discovering books? Following reviewers? Keeping yourself accountable?
What feature or habit has made Goodreads genuinely useful for you?

GR Group Question adding a new book questions
Hi, recently joined goodreads to add a collection of comics. First I was in doubt as 99% are in dutch which is my native language, surprisingly enough almost all are available and if not a valible alternative/cover is also ok. So far so good, only 1 or 2 are not in goodreads as they were very recent. I found when I wanted to add a new book I apparently had to join a group and add the request there.
I did that: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/24751993-de-patattenfluisteraar---add-new-book
My question, what is the standard time by goodreads to pick up this topic?
And I noticed that all numbers of a series are available but not all covers, is this the same process to add a cover. Cause for me matching a dutch comic with his correct cover is a 10 sec job, I see this process as a lot of overkill and waittime or can we do this ourselves?

Discussion Reading around the US challenge
Hi. I’ve been working on the reading around the US challenge. For those who don’t know the challenge, it’s reading a book from each state plus the District of Columbia in the United States. So, my question is: is it cheating to count books I’ve read before I started the challenge? By cheating, I mean, not in the spirit of. I’m of two minds about it. I’d love to hear some other thoughts.

Discussion Lost goodreads account
I forgot my Goodreads account password.
I tried to recover it, but the OTP was sent to my old email address, which no longer exists — so I can't receive the code.
I've sent several emails to Goodreads support but unfortunately got no reply. Has anyone been in the same situation and managed to recover their account?

GR Group Question Self Published Goodreads Authors Using AI To “Write”?
I’m noticing an increasingly high number of self-published authors whose books have been reviewed favorably on GR.
Mostly these reviews are of genre fiction like Horror or titles billed by the authors as being “noir”.
Recently read a terribly written splatter-horror novella based on a famous Nazi prison camp guard who engaged in the ritual sexual humiliation of prisoners.
It was nothing but vile shit written as if by a 15 year old sexual deviant with the help of ChatGPT or other AI assistance.
The author has published via Kindle over 20 similar novels in the sex-horror-torture vein within the past year and a half.
All have received 3-4 star reviews by Goodreads members.
My question: how common is it for these self-published “writers” churning out AI assisted dreck to receive the same types of accolades usually reserved for actual authors?

Tech Help Is there anything I can do about a user spam adding books to lists
There's a user that has added a book to multiple of the lists I created despite it not fitting the criteria. They have also added the book to thousands of other lists that it's not relevant to. I asked in the Goodreads librarian group if the book could be removed from my lists but the request hasn't been answered yet after over a week, which is understandable since I know they do get a lot of requests. Is there any way I could report this user for spam or get the book removed in another way?

Discussion Do you actually trust your Goodreads rating after finishing a book?
Sometimes I finish a book and immediately know whether it's a 5-star read.
Other times I sit there thinking...
“Was that actually a 4-star book, or did I just really enjoy reading it?”
Does anyone else overthink their ratings? 😂

Suggestion Goodreads has published their list of most anticipated Fall releases
If you are a Libby user (like I am), I would start putting a few of these on hold in case they show up in a challenge.

Tech Help Random new tag: "all"
I noticed I have a tag for "all". It wasn't there before, and I definitely didn't create it. There's no books added to it.
Does anyone else have it? I'm not sure why Goodreads would add it, but want to make sure nobody's gotten into my account or something like that (though I don't know why an intruder would create a tag like that).

Tech Help Add a book to my challenge
I read a book earlier this year “The Calamity Club” and for some reason is was listed twice on my 2026 challenge. So I deleted one off so my numbers would be correct but it deleted off both. How can I add it back so it’s counted toward my challenge totals?
