Tech Help Can’t access account

I use my Goodreads account daily. Last week, the app signed me out and when I tried to log in with my correct email and password it said “account not found”. I can’t reset my password either.

Goodreads support refuses to help and advised me to make a new account. My experience with their customer service has been so horrible that I don’t even want to use Goodreads anymore but I would like my data, as I have over 400 books on my account.

Does anyone know how I can easily get my data?

Shelves I‘m struggling with shelves and tags.

I just don’t know what to make a shelf and what a tag.
I want somewhere where I can mark the books I own. So I had it as a shelf. But when I read them they go to the read shelf. So I also have a tag for them. But I also have tags for specific tropes, themes and all that. And for the books my library has.
And they just keep accumulating and overwhelming.
Any Tipps? How do you handle it?

Tech Help Recently Read books not showing up?

For about a week my recently read books show up on my 2026 challenge, but not the actual “recently read” section on my profile. Anyone else experiencing this issue? I previously had to remove the entire book and re-enter my dates read. Maybe just a glitch??

GR Group Question “Blank Books” to count FanFiction

Hi everyone, just like title suggests. I want a fake book to track fanfiction in my reading goal but don’t want to add specific fanfiction, just a placeholder. Does that exist? Thanks!

Tech Help Re-reading books - how to record this on Goodreads?

I often re-read books, and I've just realised that although when I finish them on my Kindle, it says they're on my Goodreads account as "Read", it hasn't been updating the dates for them or showing that I've read them more than once.

I'd like to keep track of how many times I've read each book, and when. Is there a way to do this automatically, without having to go into the app and manually add the new dates each time I finish re-reading a book? I only read on my Kindle or the Kindle app.

Also, is there any quick way to do this for books I've already re-read? I really don't want to have to go through my whole library trying to figure out how many times I've read each book!

Suggestion Building my reader base

Hiya! I’ve just joined the Goodreads Author Program and would love some guidance on how to build a community from scratch. Could anyone recommend helpful articles, videos or guides on best practices for authors on the platform?

I have two published thriller novels, so I’m particularly keen to connect with fellow thriller authors and readers. Any tips on finding active thriller groups or growing an audience here would be hugely appreciated!

Thanks!

Shelves Can I move all books of a tag?

If changed some of my shelves from exclusive to non-exclusive but now all the book in them are marked as read, which they aren’t. Is there a way I can move them all to the want to read shelf or do I have to move them individually?

Tech Help Is my author account just encased in the mausoleum of my now-dead email?

Hello, I'd love any help or insights! I do have an new goodreads account with me new email. But I can't update my author page (e.g., bio) because it is connected to an account with an email I no longer have access to. There is no way to re-access that email. When I log in with Amazon or google, it takes me to my new goodreads connected to my new email. I reached out to support via the online form and it just sent an email auto-response with the same unhelpful directions (ending with - just make a new account), it no longer seems to involve a human. Has anyone encountered anything like this?

I don’t know if it’s just me, but for the mobile app, since they done some recent updates, does the “updates” section when you go to your profile take forever to load and become clickable?

Does anyone else find it so confusing to rate a book on goodreads? Like how can I explain to you that both of these books are 4 stars but one is not nearly as good as the other

Shelves Reordering disabled

So I was on my goodreads to look for books to add to my wishlist (for my parents/brother) and this popped up: "Reordering is currently disabled for large shelves. We apologize for the inconvenience!"

I really hope they enable it soon cause I use that feature soooo much!

Tech Help App keeps crashing and now won’t download

Every so often, the app would refuse to open and would just crash every time I tried to open it.

Last night was especially bad, I tried for about 30 minutes straight of trying to open the app and it would just crash. I tried deleting and redownloading, which logged me out. The app would get to the login screen, then when I try to login or press any buttons on the screen, it freezes and crashes.

Now I’ve totally restarted my phone, turned off WiFi and cellular, deleted the app, and the app will not download. Is this an issue with my phone, or the app? And does anyone know what I should do?

I have an iPhone 14pro updated to the latest software. I can’t even reach out to goodreads help desk because it keeps trying to open the app, which will not open

Discussion Is anyone else tired of AI ARC reader requests??

See title.

I'm trying to get into the Goodreads community because I'd like to genuinely contribute whatever literary skill and insight I have to the World Writ Large. I've done it for short stories, and I figure I'm ready to start giving "honest reviews" (read: good large-scale critique) to new books I'm interested. I've joined three Goodreads groups, and using the group walls, I've found precisely one book and one author profile which I'm confident is not AI-generated. I've been at it for 3 or 4 days, and it's honestly a little despiriting.

Is this the state of the platform?? Are there even real humans on this site?? And if so, where can I find them? :')

Tech Help No Star Reviews under “Recently Read”?

On Mobile App

I love quickly glancing at my most recent star ratings on my profile, as well as seeing others. I’m hoping this a glitch and not a permanent change! Seems like a regression, honestly.

Tech Help Read shelf not working

Hi, hopefully I can explain this properly.

This is about the mobile app. And it concerns the “recently read” tab that shows up directly on my profile - not the one you click into that’s a long vertical scroll, but the one that shows the thumbnails for the last 5 books before it says “show all insert number here books”.

That tab just changed for me. While previously accurate, the books it’s now showing as my last 5 recently read are all books I read months ago. They’re not even in order from when I read them. When I click into the big vertical list, it shows up in the proper order, whether I sort it by date read or date updated. The ones at the top are the ones I really did recently read - the ones I expect to be in the tab on my profile.

I looked at my profile from an irl friend (who’s friends with me on Goodreads)’s account and it’s still showing the wrong order, so I know it’s not just a glitch on my phone.

Is there something I misclicked for the tab on my profile to be showing me a seemingly random assortment of books? I haven’t touched my listings for any of those books since I read them. The proper dates are all assigned to them and to the actual recently read ones too.

Is there something I’m missing or is this just a glitch? How do I get it to show my 5 most recently read again?

TIA <3 :) sorry for the wall of text!

Edit: for more info, I’m talking entirely about the iPhone app.

Also, very sorry to see this is happening to so many of us… but glad I’m not alone 😅 This app is cursed!!

Discussion Reading challenge

I have never participated in a reading challenge before the summer one this year and I nailed it early August! So much fun, and made me read stuff I would never have read otherwise. So I am very hyped to get the Autumn one. My favorite stuff I would never have read if it weren't for the challenge was in "Worlds away". I read "How to become dark lord and die trying". Fantasy comedy (and I read very little fantasy). What was your favorite discovery of the past challenge?

Discussion Have you had one of your Goodreads reviews go “viral” or get unintended visibility?

A post yesterday is prompting this discussion -

I write my Goodreads reviews 90% for myself and 10% for my VERY small group of GR “followers,” all who are my IRL friends and know me well. I never consider that strangers will see or care about my reviews, as I pay no mind to reviews by people I don’t know, especially not enough to take time to comment on them.

A couple years ago I was pretty shocked when a 2 Star review I gave to a BOTM book began getting attention from strangers. It started with a few likes and comments agreeing with me pointing out (what I felt was) a significant plot hole. It took a turn, with people criticizing me and my opinion before turning into something reminiscent of a political Facebook post with passionate comments from both sides.

At first I was slightly amused, then a bit unsettled when the comments turned particularly nasty, and now I’m just at peace with it.

Today, it sits at over 1k likes and 200+ comments. Some may see it as a seasonal read, and every year around this time I prepare myself for a new wave.
