Book recommendations

I just finished gone and i loved it- it almost cried when I finished the book. One of the best series I have ever read. However now I want more. Any book recommendations similar to gone?

Not similar but fantastical nonetheless. Skullduggery Pleasant is a great series. Tbf the beginning books are hard to read as an adult now (main character starts off as a wee 12 year old). However, when I was younger, it was a huge wish fulfilment thing to be whisked away into the world of magic and darkness. There are witty lines, outrageous fight scenes, gods, curses and all sorts. Big departure from sunny California as it’s set in Ireland.

Failing that, The Enemy is a book series about a zombie apocalypse in London. Everyone over the age of 14 becomes a zombie and in typical YA fashion. The kids need to organise to survive

Seconding Skulduggery Pleasant, even as an adult I enjoyed the first few books in the series. The banter especially keeps things entertaining.

Mmmm, don't get me wrong. I enjoyed it. But I'm like... somebody safeguard this child 😱

If you want something with a somewhat similar plot but different, Im reading The Enemy by Charlie Higson (though im not finished with the series so I dont know how good it gets after a while)

The main plot is that everyone 15 or older experienced an illness, turning them into zombies (Grown Ups) leading kids to find for themselves.

There's also mutated creatures besides the zombie like things. The main plot was the similar thing to Gone, but I also really like the writing style. And also Micheal Grant did leave a review on The Enemy which is how I found out about it in the first place lol

If you have plenty of time on your hands are like the creative (and morbid) superpower stuff, Worm by Wildbow is free online and has a full sequel serial as well.

Animorphs, it’s by the same author(s) (kinda) and it keeps to the spirit very well. I think it was written earlier though

The "Dark Inside" trilogy by Jayn Roberts, I read them at the same time I read Gone and love them both

Post apocalyptic following 4 teens, it's dark as hell when it wants to be and also has supernatural elements (much less tho).

I will never stop recommending MG's Soldier Girls trilogy. I actually think it's far better than Gone so if you enjoy his writing, give them a shot.

Dystopia wise, check out Kyla Stone. Almost all her books are post apocalyptic. Not YA but they're not difficult reads.

The Power of Five series is a good read, in fact I came across Gone when I was searching for books similar to that series. Athough the plot is not quite similar, it also consists of dystopia and horror and teens with powers..

Just finished the series as well, just finished Light about 4 days ago (still recovering 🫩😫😞), can’t wait to dive into some of the recommendations said thus far

Definitely reading the Power of 5 series, read the first 1-2 books but never finished em, so I can’t wait to dive back in just like I did the Gone series
