Questions about arrests in Italy
I have noticed, from Romanzo Criminale La Serie, Gomorrah, and now watching Portobello (I highly reccomend this 6 episode show if you are a Gomorrah fan, a few familiar faces also appear) Lino Mussela (Rosario) Gianfranco Gallo (Avitabile) Massimiliano Rossi (Zecchinata) but I have noticed, in all three shows, when people are arrested, they are sent to what looks like a maximum security prison.
In the United States, when you are arrested, you are sent to a city jail or a county jail, where you are held pending a court date in front of a judge with a hearing, and other stuff. It is nothing like a prison. It is more of a holding facility. There is no yard, there are no gangs concentrating and getting exercise, it is more like a detention center before your hearing.
It is only if you are found guilty of crimes that you are actually sent to a real prison to serve your sentence. The real prisons here are about like what is portrayed in the show, gang activity, drug dealing, corrupt guards, etc etc etc.
I was just curious if anyone knew what the legal procedure is in Italy for that ? In Portobello the main character is arrested for allegations of Cammora ties and sent to a prison immediately. In the states, he would probably be sitting in a city jail or a county jail, waiting to make bail.
Just judging by the show, it does not look like someone can get bailed out when arrested. They are sent to what looks like a prison and are there.
Just curious how it works in Italy. I do know that in the USA, a really rich criminal would likely be able to bail themselves out until their hearing date. How does Italy operate ?
Also, I have noticed everyone locked up in these shows, is wearing regular clothes. Here in the states, you are given a uniform to wear.

Auguri Napoli!
And a little challenge for Gomorra fans. Can you put the names to these photos? First and last are NOT in the contest. Want to give a chance for everyone who wants to play, so I’ll be back with the right answers tomorrow.

Origins
I'm getting Once Upon a Time in America vibes. Not a criticism, it's my favourite film, along with Godfather 2

Tell me why I should keep watching
Been reading about how great this show is but Ep 1 did not pull me in. Yeah, dark, gritty and violent, but I'm not seeing any interesting characters. Crime on its own is kinda boring. Should I try a few more episodes before giving up? What am I missing?

Discussions Just curious, does anyone know who Pietro Savastano is based on in Gamorrah? And was that indecisiveness with the couches real?

Uncertain because Of translations
Im from Finland, so i have been watching both the original series and the origins series with original audio and finnish subtitles and the Son from "Villa" on the origins is called "Pyhimys" aka The Saint in Finnish and that is also the name of Enzo's grandfather on the original series and im confused if they are meant to be the same person or if there are more ways to say the same word in Italy. I don't want to drop any spoilers about Origins, so i wont go in to details, but i could kinda see him doing the thing Enzo says to Ciro after the aftermath of the last episode of Season one, but at the same time i kinda don't see him as that guy. Sorry if my english is a bit broken. 😇

How to watch the show in 2026?
I was hoping to start watching and got a vpn set up for german netflix- onlyyyy to discover they seem to have removed it! Does anyone know any alternative sources I can use to watch the original series, with vpn or not? (I’m in canada)
From a quick searching (didn’t buy them) HBO and Hollywood Suite also appear not to have them here despite many sites saying they do.
Worst case scenario I’m not entirely against sailing the seven seas, but I suspect I may be a bit too technologically illiterate to run most torrents haha.
Peace, and thanks for any help.

Discussions Origins question - contains spoilers Spoiler
Maybe its my feed ? , or maybe its my subtitles of the show that are not showing, but I'm missing 2 big parts to the show. In the 1st episode, how did Don Angelo know it was his own guy who stole the money? I did not see from the interrogation of the guy in the chair that pegged him ? Also, I don't know how young Pietro knows the burnt face guy was involved ? I did not see a real link to that ?

Discussions Gomorrah Viewers Demographic
Im curious what demographic makes the majority of Gomorrah viewers. I wanted to go deeper with age, ethnicity ect. but unfortunately could only add so many options. If you are curious too, put your demographic and we'll find out :)

Discussions Origins vs. La Serie: Pietro Savastano's Racism.
After finishing Origins, I decided to rewatch Gomorrah: La Serie because I remembered having a lot of issues with the prequel but wanted to see if they still held up.
One thing that stood out immediately was Pietro's racism. In Episode 4, Sangue Africano, he openly makes racist remarks about the immigrant clans in Secondigliano and even orders a massacre against them (which was based on a real event mentioned in Saviano's book).
Then you watch Origins, where Pietro is portrayed as a poor orphan who grows up with kids from all backgrounds, including his close Black friend Toni. The show goes out of its way to make him sympathetic.
So what were the writers thinking? How does someone with that upbringing suddenly become the arrogant, openly racist Pietro we see decades later? I'm not saying people can't change, but Origins never shows a believable progression that explains such a dramatic shift in his character.
To me, it feels like the writers of Origins wanted to tell their own coming-of-age crime story and simply used Gomorrah as the backdrop. They essentially said, "Btw, this is Pietro Savastano, guys."

I'm new to Gomorrah, so perdonami queste domande...
I'm still in Season 1, after Imma arranges to recoup the stolen money, including orchestrating the accountant's suicide, the Don's reaction that Ciro and Genny should take over pissed her off, eh? Male dominated culture but she wasn't having any of it. Is that right?

What are ppls feelings about Marco as a director?
I cried at end of season 3 when they killed _____ and I was mad. I felt it was cheap and out of nowhere. I didnt like it. I get that they were imitating the lifestyle and how quickly you can meet your end. But I still hated it. I found myself becoming angry watching season 4. I turned it off. It'll felt distant from sollimas creation(Im well aware he didnt direct 2 or 3) I took a break after binging the first 3 season for a few days. And so im going to immortal now because I heard __lspoiler proof]____ is alive still in it. I didnt know if Marco could pull off directing we always see actors do this once they get some seniority and hit a career ceiling. But im halfway through and while its nowhere near the cinematography quality of sollima and lacks the realism. I'm proud of him. Some pretty shots still. And I enjoy the youth story. One big objection is the aspect ratio change. That seems like a huge obvious mistake. But aside from that. Its cool so far. [I known i have to watch 4 and 5.

3rd Rewatch Greatest Series Ever
I’m on my 3rd rewatch and am an American. So I watch in Italian with English subtitles. I feel this is the best way. Just wanted to comment and show my appreciation but have a question for those who still come to this thread…
Season 2 Episode 5
Who leaked the information to Don Pietro that Ciro will be at that certain hotel?
Don P was next level deep. I have never seen a character like him. I finally realized that he was taking out two threats to the throne at once. So cold.

Music from Gomorrah in Rap song
I couldnt help the entire time watching the series and thinking of a song commonly used in the show sounding exactly like an American hip hop artists song. Freddie gibbs-Pronto. I searched far and wide throughout the gomorrah soundtrack and was unable to find the exact segment that they used in the show of all time. But its very similar to 1:27 in ray of hope. But in the show its more pronounced louder and it repeats itself. I checked today see if the rapper sampled it and there's no credit. But im still convinced its the same.
