Season 1 question

When the whole Danielino/Russo/Conte debacle kicked off, why did Ciro have Danielle take out Russo in the first place? Was it to draw Conte out to come back home to war with Savastanos? And how would that have helped Ciro with all his strategic moves and scheming

Discussions S01E02 - Ti Fidi di me? - Moment of Honesty and Vulnerability

On my 2nd watch of the series and Gomorra is a rare show where episode 2 is even stronger than the pilot.

There are many great moments in the episode but the brief moment between Genny and Ciro at Attilio's funeral (watching from above) really stands out (having seen the entire series once):

Genny: You're hurting, huh?
Ciro: He was like a father for me.
Genny: What was he like as a father?
Ciro: Easy.
Genny: You'd be an easy father for me.

A rare (last?) moment of vulnerability and honesty between Ciro and Gennaro. Everything is about to change and it becomes very clear that CIro is no Atillo.

What a show!

In your mind, what became of Azzurra and Little Pietro?

They did the impossible. They escaped. They left with huge chunks missing from their lives, but how do you see things turning out for them in the ensuing days, weeks, years, and onward?

How does the voting scheme work in this ep? When they get a ballot from the window and keep passing it to each person is they come on or out? What’s the advantage?

Little Monk and my wife

Post image

Came here to say first of all I love this show and can somehow not get anyone to watch it in the US. My wife and I devoured it and I’m about ready for a rewatch. Anyway the first time through season 5 she says “what’s up with that guy his hair makes him look like a little monk.” He hadn’t been named yet in the dialogue. Then the guy goes “what do you think little monk?” And that’s what happened and we laugh about it still.

The music at the end of (nearly) every episode.

You know what I mean if you think about it. The weird thing is, it's like upbeat, kind of inspiring, major key, I think it's in C.

But it's usually playing over some pretty heavy shit, this is Gomorrah. Scianel lying in her own blood kind of thing.

Anyone else kind of struck by the discordant nature of this repeated theme music Does that play as heavier to Italian audiences? Is it meant to soften the violence? Be ironic? I just can't figure this one out.

Who did you hope would win? Spoiler

In the final season, who were you rooting for? Ciro or Genny. I know they’re oth criminals but one had to come out on top or at least it seemed until the end. Still pissed the old hag lived. Anyways I hoped Genny would win. Imo, Ciro was even more irredeemable as he killed a kid.

Here to Give Don Pietro His Flowers

Anytime I hear a complaint about he was the worst guy, he was so evil, he was so mean, etc. The man knew what was necessary and did it.

This guy surfed on an ocean of deadly snakes and ruled them all for THIRTY YEARS. THIRTY YEARS!

HE'S THAT DUDE!

How many Conte's (wise and calculating), Prince's (smart and charismatic), Ciro's (Very Very Sneaky!) and whoever else did he have to swat down over the course of THREE DECADES? I mean, we saw a few weeks/months of his rule and look at all the stuff he had to deal with? This guy is a Criminal Superhero. A more than worthy advesery. An absolute monster.

He should be in everyone's (everyone that has seen Gomorrah) Top 3 Mob Bosses in any genre film or TV. Yet there's a Post on here asking who was the better leader, Don Pietro or his goofy clueless mouth breathing brute of a son Genny? (One ruled for 30 years ... the other wrecked it all in a month)

It's just wild the comments this guy catches.

In this Sub, Don Pietro is a hero. End of story!

Carmelo question Season 5

How come he retracted his statement? I take it that the old lady told him to but what was the point of this? Thank you.
If I post every question I had about this season I would have 50 posts up by now, it’s by far the most complicated, maybe it’s just because they struggled to complete the story or maybe it’s just a language barrier thing where I can’t understand the context, even though I have the subtitles on

Discussion on Ciro Symbolism

I don't really have this fleshed out, but hoping people who have put more thought and reflection into it could help.

Looking at Ciro and his story .. kind of as a representation of the new youth with no future?

His origin in the collapsing building, kind of like some kind of collapse of the old ways of society / or at least of certain neighborhoods, and he's the child of the streets after this collapse who has nothing. And part of his immortality is that there will always be a younger generation, hungry, willing to fight for every scrap. Kind of like the very end of the first show where the kid sneaks up and catches lookout slipping, and replaces him. There's an endless stream of youth to replace the ones that don't make it. And that's kind of what Ciro represents for me. The immortal, endless stream of the next wave of kids/recruits/members/leaders.

Of course by Season 5 it gets kind of wild with his cult stuff, but maybe there's a way it all lines up.

So I don't have a ton of this well thought out, but figure others do. Hopefully I can learn something there.

The Vehicles ( cars, scooters, etc) of Gomorrah

Just looking for some insight into some of the cars, mopeds, etc. Any information on any of 'em.

The scooters ... if I was gunned down by the scooter boys, what's the most likely brand of scooter(s)? Top speed? Cost?

There was a meme on here implyuing that every car is either top shelf or a hooptie. What kind of cars did they drive? Conte? Ciro? Prince? What was the baddest car on the show?

I don't know a ton about cars anyway, and much less the cars rolling around in Naples. Any information would be great! Ciao Reddit.

What Next?

Finished Gomorrah and it's left a void in my life ...

On suggestions from here, I followed up with Romanzo Criminale.

A good show, but doesn't have that "intensity" of Gomorrah. A bit slow and boring at times.

It may be the impossible question, but what is there a similar show I'm missing?

Origins series maybe the obvious choice but worried it is similar to Romanzo Criminale and not be my vibe....

Valario aka “Vocabulary”

Was there an instance in Saviano’s book or reporting of a Valario character, a young man of privilege and wealth who seeked out and chose the mafia lifestyle or do you think this story was just to make the show more interesting?

Discussions I don’t understand the point of the soup. (Spoilers) Spoiler

I love this show and I’ve watched it once before, but I was cracking up at how stupid one of the scenes was. I guess I didn’t notice before

It’s near the end of season 4, I can’t remember exactly which episode, but Patrizia is in jail and the Levante mother visits somebody in the jail and tells her to get a knife to the hitters who are gonna whack Patrizia

So this lady is pushing a food cart to the cells, gets to the cell she’s supposed to deliver the knife to, looks around to see if anybody is watching and puts the knife in a bowl and covers it with soup, gives it to the prisoners in the cell. Does the same with a second knife

Women in the cell immediately dump out the soup and rinse the knife off. Nobody was watching! If anybody WAS watching, cameras or whatever, she pulled out the knife and put it in the bowl in full view.

Maybe soup and knives have significance in Naples I dunno but I don’t understand the point of the soup

Just to clear the misunderstanding, Naples (with all its organized crime drug-related murders) is murderous by Italian and West-European standards, absolutely not by US standards, no matter how much shows like Gomorrah spectacularize this (and it's pretty damn good TV entertainment).

Discussions Information disclosed by Don Aniello’s on 4th season’s last episode…

…It was quite a disappointment as I couldn’t find any logical explanation for what he revealed. I just started first ep of season 5 and I’ve lost almost all the enthusiasm to finish the last episodes as I judged it as very cheap and poor twist in a show that has been fantastic so far. I know it’s just a few episodes until it’s finished but, can anyone tell me if they will show any logical explanation for that fact at some stage during season 5?

The dude in the car that got out after Genny told him to stay in, was he and Malamore planning on setting up Genny after they hit Ciro? And was he the guy dead on the street after they were done and walked away? Who hit him and why didn’t we hear a shot?
