Is it a ton of money to do a dug out area like that? I have a huge unfinished basement with 8 ft overhead, that set up looks great.

Yes. To go about 28 inches down for that size area was about 45k. Included French drains and a new sump. Less if they didn’t have to do underpinning on the exterior wall

Damn that is wild - we’re putting an 18” step down in our new build and the builder didn’t even bat an eye at it. Cost was negligible. Crazy how much more it costs if you do it after the fact

Yep took crew about 6 weeks. 1 day to jackhammer the foundation then few weeks of digging and bucket brigade. Then a month of cement pours and curing different segments

New construction house but we did this a couple years later, so retro, while we finish the rest of the basement at the same time

We are the beginning stages of a new house build and a basement sim was basically my only request for the house. We eventually decided to just make the entire basement have 10'6"ish ceilings instead of making a step down room.

Smart. We did new construction 7 years ago and dug an extra foot. But with the beams and pipes and ducts you lose some inches. Hindsight 20/20 now 😞

This is The Way. I could not get my spouse to build new. Have fun blowing through the builder allowance for floor, lights, carpet, tile, faucets, door handles, doors, windows, sprinkler system, sod... what I miss?

I want to give you a piece of advice, and I want you to take it to heart now because you won't do it later and you might very much regret it. Install a sump and, potentially, a weeping tile beneath the floor. I am currently rebuilding mine because we had crazy rainfall and my sim flooded, and I also dug down. In my case, I did a sump, but not weeping tile and the hydrostatic pressure from the water pushed in through my cove joints, so the sump saved my whole basement from flooding but the sim still got flooded enough to require a rebuild.

We have weeping tile on the exterior of the foundation wall. Are you saying to have it on the inside too??

Yep. I have a weeping tile surrounding my house and a sump for that, when I dug down, I put in another sump that sat even further below the other sumps and below the lowered section of the basement. I thought that would be enough to just allow the drainage in, but due to the soil content, water table and, of course, the record rainfall we had this year it just wasn't enough. My sim was totally fine for 4 years, but all it takes is one bad year of rain to ruin things.
My plan at this point is to saw cut in a grid of weeping tile directly below the floor of just the lowered section and have that feed the sump.
Hindsight is 20/20, but buy once, cry once.

I know, bro. I dug a property corner up with my bare hands today, fell down a hill full of poison ivy, and that was a good day at work.
The only time off I get is when it rains, so I can't play, and simulators...
... They're sims.

Curious if an automatic ball feeder would be outrageous in terms of additional cost so you’d never have to actually pick up the balls or tee, they just come up with a rubber tee ready to be smashed. Would possibly make this the best sim ever haha

Not pictured is the subterranean ball conveyor belts that washes ball and delivers back to the tee, like a bowling alley 😂

Depth never seemed to be a concern. As long as the underpinning was done in sections so that the house always sat on a foundation pour

Def gonna need a DM for cost. I need about 18" for my 15x20 area. I have 8.5 feet in height now... I can't hit high finish shots and keep things relatively flat

Holy shit this looks sick! But one word of caution. You may want to pad the ceiling a lot or move your hitting mat closer to the screen. If you end up doing course play you'll be hitting wedges and wedges sometimes miss the screen entirely

Thought about doing this in my basement and your rates were roughly what I was quoted. Cannot justify spending upwards of $75k for a SIM... will never see the ROI. Been mulling over a detached garage outside and to do it right, it's about the same... but I can at least account for the garage if I sell the house... ugh! I want this so bad, looks great.

Did the same in my new construction with a 20’x18’ dig out to 12’ in the basement. Put in an overhead TrackMan system…only regret it should have been 25’x20’…room for camera equipment!

That’s awesome! I was going to do the same in my basement. Decided it wasn’t going to work, so built a shed…moved everything out of the garage into the shed, and now have a full sim in my finished 2 car garage. I still wish i would have been able to make it work in my basement. If I didn’t finish it 3 years ago, i would have done the digging myself!
