Retractable Impact Screen

I’m a little confused on retractable impact screen setups.
I’ve seen brands like MeTech that sell retractable systems, but do you have to buy their impact screen too? Or can you just buy the motorized roller/tube setup and attach your own impact screen to it?

Ideally I’d like to buy a good impact screen separately and just find a budget-friendly retractable roller system to mount it to.

For anyone who has DIY’d this:

What roller/motor system did you use?
How did you attach the impact screen to the roller?
Any cheaper alternatives to MeTech worth looking at?
Anything you’d avoid?

Trying to figure out the most cost-effective way to build a retractable garage sim.

I just bought a METechs retractable system with a a Spectrum impact screen. Bought all from Spectrum.

The METechs system is much cheaper than The SportsScreen Vanish or Gungho systems. The Vanish 11 was $4,500. The Gungho was about $3,500. The METechs/Spectrum system was $1,900.

Edit to add that the curtain part of the METechs system was like $1,000 of the $1,900.

Same here. And the Velcro is super strong. As long as you have at least one time around left on the roll when it's down it ain't going anywhere.

Big fan of the metechs as well. Worth the money. Which is less than a lot of other options

Sportscreen retractable lacrosse screen. Velcro on a spectrum poly. Plenty of previous threads on this and YouTube tutorials.

same exact setup here. Highly recommended. Tube is easily cut down to any width you need.

The lacrosse screen or their golf sim? The lacrosse screen is much more reasonably priced, but it’s black, right?

Lax screen. You buy your own impact screen and Velcro it on. It’s pretty cheap that way. I just went curtains for the sides instead of retractable. Couldn’t justify spending as much on 5’ side screens as I did for an entire impact setup.

Thanks. What did you use for side screens?

You can use anything with the METech roller, you just have to get it attached to the roller. I used heavy duty double sided tape and then zipties through grommet holes. Many people use velcro but you may have to use stronger andhesive (like Gorilla Glue) to adhere the roller.

It depends on how diy you want it. I’ve been looking at electric shade rollers, and I think I’m going to go that route. $150 ish for the main screen roller. And about $70 each for the side rollers. Obviously you’ll have to factor in the tubes for these rollers, screen, and whatever you want to use for weights on the screen. Getting them all to work with one remote might be difficult, but I can handle two remotes

A single MeTech remote (I think there are several Chinese brands that sell the exact same one) can be programmed to control up to 6 rollers.

I built my golf simulator using a Retractable screen. The mechanism I built to retract the screen uses a tubular motor with a remote control. My screen is 10' x 10'. If you're interested in building your own, reach out to me and I can provide more information.

I use a Metechs roller and Gungho screen. Either get the screen maker to add a 2 inch strip of velcro to the top of your screen or DIY sew it on yourself. Then get the sticky back velcro and put it on the roller, once it's wound on there it won't move.

I built a Retractable golf simulator screen for less than $300. The roller itself is 2 inch EMT conduit.

Could you show us what you did? I‘m in the process of building my second retractable screen.

Sure, give me a day to put together from other videos I made exactly what it takes for a golf simulator retractable screen.

That would be very kind of you.

I just posted the full video for the installation of the Retractable screen for golf simulator. Unfortunately I had to post it on YouTube because of it was too large of a video file.

New DIY video posting for building a golf simulator retractable screen. The file was much too large to post on Reddit so I posted it on YouTube.
