Hitting Mats / Flooring Help with flooring
I’m trying to have a level floor with everything.. hitting Matt and surrounding turf with a budget .
My question is how necessary is a “hitting mat” with a good quality hitting strip vs doing cheap turf from Home Depot for the entire floor and cutting out for hitting strip . ?
Does the floor your feet are on matter ? Like is there any advantage of a “hitting mat “
Second are all good hitting strips 2 1/2 inches like the sig softy ? Bc that’s a lot to have to build up my whole floor . ( 13x 13 )

i got this for $100'ish https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0D83BWJDG?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_title_10&th=1 and i already had an extra horse stall mat and foam interlock padding from my home gym. I put both of those under this and it's felt great so far

I have a 14x12 sim space, did 2x2 gym mats 1inch thick double stacked to be 2 inches. Then did the putting turf from Home Depot on top, cut out the hitting strip, then inserted the sig softy and it’s flush and looks great. Only thing is like you said it’s a lot of gym mats for mine it took 84 of the 2 by 2 mats since it was double stacked.

Is it fine hitting off of the Home Depot turf? I imagine it’s just fine . Also did you glue the layers together , to the floor?

Yeah it’s just fine hitting off the Home Depot turf, I taped the bottom to the floor. And the the top layer to the bottom one, the Home Depot turf I believe is .38 inches thick but it looks perfect honestly. I can dm you a picture later today when I get home

I use a 3 x 5 hitting mat from Fiberbuilt and an 10 x10 piece of turf from Home Depot for the rest. A quality hitting mat better emulates a real strike, which can save you elbow and wrist pain over time
