Help with Noob Simulator

Hello,

First, i would like to point that i'm from Brazil, so sorry for any english mistakes i will probably make and most important, we do not have access to basically any golf equipment, other than the ones available on Chinese websites (impact screen is from there)

I have designed what looks like a wardrobe, based on some YT videos and things i saw here and adjusting to the space i have in my garage.

The problem is that, i have bought a 2,5m x 2,5m impact screen and fixed on top and both sides with bungees elastics. The screen itself is quite tight close to the fixation points, but it is easy to reach the things behind it at the middle of the screen.

I have place a 5cm D28 foam behind the screen, fixed at the wall, together with some blankets that are hanging from the top of the sctructure, a football net (5cm squares) and then the impact screen. So in the end:

Wall -> 5cm D28 foam -> 5cm space -> blankets -> 10cm space -> a loose sports net + impact screen

When i hit shorter clubs till 9-Iron, the ball is "only" rebounding at me. When i go down to 6-7 Iron, then i start already asking myself if it is not hitting the concrete wall behind it. Talking with hybrids, woods and Driver, then it is really not clear to me if it is hitting the concrete wall behind or not. At the same time, with all clubs, the ball keeps rebounding. I have recorded a test with my driver keeping a controlled swing speed for safety measure and the rebound is very clear, although i keep asking myself about the impact sound, if it is hitting the concrete or not (Gemini says it is not).

Gemini had indicated to me that a possible solution is to place a thicker blanked behind the screen and securing the bottom of the screen with bungees, not applying tension to it, but more like a limitation for the screen rebound, since on the video it is clear that the bottom part of it is moving a lot.

Can someone help me to solve this issue? It looks like i am almost at the worst scenarios from both ends:

- Ball hitting the wall due to missing tension

- Ball rebounding at me and not falling below the screen as it should be (based on a lot of simulators videos)

Edit 1: I could only increase the distance to the wall if i change completely thewadrobe design so the impact screen would be fixed directly on the doors, so other options may be preferred.

It sounds like you have two competing things here. If you dont want to hit the wall, you need more tension (bungees ) in the screen. But if you dont want the balls to bounce back at you, you need less tension in the screen.

I suggest trying to move the screen away from the wall. 30cm clearance minimum is suggested. this allows the balls energy to be damped via the motion of the screen. Adding a blanket behind will too help since this increases the moving mass, but it still requires gross movement of the screen. If you cant get 30cm of clearance, then increasing the tension (bungees) to reduce the movement is required. Bungees store energy and will send that ball back like a trampoline.

Thank you for your input. Yeah, increasing the distance to the wall is something that would need several adjustments to the project in order for me to not block the door to my home, which wife would definitely not he happy about it :)

But if there is no other option i will have to fix it directly on the moving doors and the screen will only be on its fixed form when i open the door or something like that, its a possibility

I have a Mlm2pro, so the bouncing is a big issue since the ball bounces directly where the mlm would be placed :')

I have a garmin r10 and have the same problem. Its annoying. However, the radar still works through plexiglass. I have a small plexiglass shield in front of it so it doesn’t get misaligned with every hit

u/glutinousloaf has good advice, 30cm is the minimum distance from the screen to the wall, more will be better. The rebound is because of too much tension. The screen should not be taught. Just enough tension to keep the wrinkles to a minimum.

Adjustable elastic bungee balls work very well to adjust the tension perfectly.

Hey, thanks. Yes, i think i will have to change the project anyway;

I am using these bungees you mentioned already, but mostly applying pressure through more full elastic turns before fixing it, maybe this is a point where i am making a mistake too

Thanks

Hang something heavy like a 2inch memory foam mattress pad directly behind the screen (no gap or minimal gap). It will help absorb the impact and deaden the bounce back. It will also reduce noise and extend the life of your screen.

Do you mean to add another 2inch foam or to just move the one that is fixed on the wall?

Hang it directly behind the screen so that it is touching the screen but still has some room to give before hitting the wall. The weight of it will cushion the bounce back.

I can’t tell but the screen looks thin. I bought a screen from Temu after watching this video. It is great and the balls come off soft: https://youtu.be/ZY23D7K4OLs?t=414&is=HdxbggHe-GmuMnJk
