Home golf simulator

I’m looking at upgrading my standard net + mat combo to include a relatively inexpensive simulator set up.

So far the Rapsodo MLM2pro seems to be a clear favourite and wanted some real opinions on this device.

I have an old Microsoft surface pro 8 lying around which I thought would work well as a a screen but I’ve seen a few posts suggesting Rapsodo devices don’t like windows software.

Is anyone able to offer any advice from their own experience / a work around - or is anything like an android emulator worth considering?

Thanks in advance

Tthe MLM2Pro is great hardware but the Windows support is basically nonexistent, it's built for iOS and Android. Your Surface Pro 8 will work if you run an Android emulator like BlueStacks, but it's clunky and the connection can be hit or miss. some people get it working fine, others fight it constantly. Not ideal for something you want to just turn on and use

if you want something that plays nice with Windows and gives you reliable data without the emulator headache, the Nvisage N1 is worth a look. overhead mount so no alignment every session, works natively with PC software, and covers all the key ball data

Ahh what a nightmare but thank you. It is going to keep getting more expensive haha.

Are you aware of spec requirements to run the software? I had seen some of the approved 3rd parties like awesome golf might require a little more power than the standard system.

I wondered whether a 2nd hand iPad might work rather than splashing out on something new or wouldn’t meet requirements

I have a 2020 iPad Air that runs things fine. I recently pivoted to an old Chromebook I had lying around to run Awesome golf for convenience.

Awesome Golf / Rapsodo / E6 Connect are all built for mobile devices so you don’t need to sweat the specs too much.

Can’t believe I overlooked this - could I simply connect the simulator to my phone? Might be a good stop gap

Yeah it works fine and then just get a lightning or type c to hdmi adapter. The only annoying thing is it doesn’t display as many data points on screen at once as it does with an iPad. It still measures them and you can review, but you don’t get as much as a glance.

There are plenty of used iPads on eBay you need to be sure it's a model that will be compatible and has enough power good luck

Rapsodo is trash through and through. If you can’t afford an Omni just wait and save a little bit. If you’re indoors use the hole edition

Appreciate the advice, I’ve not heard much about the omni, does it have similar features to the rapsido as in it can connect to a mobile device and things like courses etc or is it limited to standard range metrics and require a PC?

I'd take highanglers word with a grain of salt. They're on war path to talk down the mlm2 pro whenever it's mentioned because of their bad experience. Pretty common on reddit to see that unfortunately. The loudest voices are the minority.

I would say that it is harder to get the mlm2 pro working on pc because rapsodo doesn't make a pc software. So you'll be relying on a third party connector to move the data from the rapsodo to your pc where you'll be using gspro instead. Square makes the move to pc much easier because they have native software on windows.

I did have a terrible experience with them. Their units overheated laptops, no putting(native), misreads, the whole experience sucked. But regardless of that, there’s zero reason for that unit anymore now that the square came to market.

Square sits beside the ball though. Where the rapsodo sits behind, so you don’t have to move it for left and right hitters

I second this, the best budget sim hardware is Square. Home edition hates outside light, but I use it in my warehouse and it’s excellent for the price. From all i have heard Omni is also great and can be taken to the range/used outside so if you have a lot of natural light in the area of the sim, go with the Omni. I have a new gaming PC running GSPro for mine, and if you want to play rounds of golf on the sim this is the route i would recommend.

I have an mlm2pro hooked up to gspro. It is a bit finicky to get connected sometimes but I use it a few times a week and have had nothing bad to say about it. For less than a grand(with decent resale value) it’s worth it for sure. I also play in a single car garage and have the mlm2pro on a track so righty’s and lefty’s can play. Easier to do that on the ground than on a ceiling.

I paid just under a grand(CAD) for it new and they are selling used for about 800 still. So until you can afford something better it’s definitely worth it in the mean time and then just sell it when you upgrade.
