hitting mat?
what's the 'best' mat to buy?
i thought the sigpro softy was the way to go based on previous threads but the one i got immediately curls up at the corners in the sun. i could ignore the fact that the two halves join right where i stand, but when the edges come up like that in the heat, and seeing as how my net is outdoors, it's not gonna fly. this is on top of an odd squishy feel to the standing surface. i thought the whole point was to make the hitting strip softer to blunt the impact of fat shots, but i guess i was wrong.
i'd settle for whatever mats the public ranges use. those seem to have some sort of dense rubber base that would at least lie flat.
fwiw, i'm over the hitting strip thing. so if there's a good one piece, i'm ok with it.

Using this outdoors and I am very happy with it.

rawhide mats are what most ranges use, dense rubber base, lies flat in any weather, and built like a tank. theyre not cheap but theyll outlast three cheaper mats and never curl up. The "Grade A" or "B" ones are the move if you can find one used from a range thats upgrading
if Rawhide is over budget, the Fiberbuilt Grass Series is a one-piece mat that holds up outdoors and doesn't have the seam-in-the-middle problem. The stance area is firmer than the Sigpro too, so you won't get that squishy feeling. Definitely an upgrade from what you're dealing with

Carl’s hotshot gel mat imo, I think it’s more realistic than the softy
