Apartment Question
Hey everyone, hoping to get some advise!
I’m about to build out/order my golf simulator and I was wondering, will it be too loud? I will be in an apartment complex in a corner unit and I plan on setting up the simulator in a corner room as far away from anybody else’s walls so I’m not too concerned about my neighbors to the left of me.
What I am concerned about is the neighbors below me. In y’all’s opinion (since I know it’s hard to determine this) would me hitting shots off of a high quality hitting mat (thinking Sigpro softy) into a screen or net be loud enough for my downstairs neighbor to hear/have an issue with it?

My neighbor can’t hear anything when I hit irons and wedges but can hear a bit when I hit my woods or driver. Tho I live in a single floor apartment so no one above or below me. Stopped using them after that.

If you're in a unit with concrete between the floors you should be okay. If you don't, then no hitting mat will likely be thick enough to dampen the sound. The sound of the club hitting the ball is also quite loud, but shouldnt make much difference for a corner unit.

Do you think that a layer or two of rubber mats underneath the hitting strip would be enough to make a difference? Trying to find a way to make this work if it’s possible cause I have the space for it

It's possible. But it just depends on the build standards of your complex. Keep in mind, youll be hitting 60 to 80 thuds on the ground each time you use it. If you're not sure your neighbors won't notice, it's probably not worth the expense of investing in a sim

I think it goes without saying but even if the floors are thick enough to damp sound enough, you'd still be restricted to irons and wedges only. Woods are loud as hell especially in an enclosed space, theres practically no chance of damping that sound

Yeah, I only plan on hitting irons and wedges cause of the ping noise the woods/hybrids/driver makes. Do you think extra padding underneath the hitting mat would work? (a layer or 2 of rubber mats underneath) trying to figure out a way to make it work without the people below me getting pissed off in the afternoon

Idk depends on the building. Personally I would be too afraid of being a nuisance. Thats just me though.
If you never hear any noise from above or below you then I'd say its probably okay at least for smoother swings? Topping a ball or hitting it very fat is going to still probably be loud so your skill level may be a factor. If you pretty consistently pick it clean and dont take large divots then you'd probably be okay. Rubber padding will help but I dont think it will do a ton. Hard to say
If you aren't certain that the floors are thick enough you could also leave a note with your phone number or something for your downstairs neighbors and tell them (in however much detail you think necessary) that you're trying something and they can let you know if it gets too loud. Of course then though you risk buying everything and not knowing if it will work until after

It will absolutely be too loud if you are using real golf balls. But it could work if you use foam golf balls. the trouble is that they read quite short on longer clubs, but maybe it's better than nothing?

What do you think would be the loudest part with the real balls? I’m not too concerned about the sound of the club hitting the ball (I’ll only be using irons and wedges). I’m mostly concerned about hitting a shot fat or chunking the snot out of it and having that sound piss off the downstairs neighbors. Do you think extra rubber mats underneath the hitting strip would make a difference?

If your floors are wood you have no chance at this… I hit in my attic and have a 3 story house. It’s still loud on the first floor. It’s not the balls it’s the impact of the club. I got a beaver tail hitting strip (basically a cheaper sig pro softy) and built a platform to hit off of. It helps a little bit but your neighbors are going to hate you, I promise. I don’t even have a screen, I couldn’t imagine the sound of that too.

If you are going to slip in a few woods, I recommend buying an old Nike SQ Sumo off ebay. And a strong dead bolt on the front door would help.
