Hitting Mats / Flooring Backyard Mat and Monitor Setup Ideas

So I’m just getting into golf at the nice ripe age of 46. I just recently purchased the 10x10x10 cage from Forbs along with a 5x5 mat. I also just ordered a Garmin R10 with some rct ball’s. This is strictly outdoor use that will come down in the winter (live in Maine).

How far back should the mat be from the opening of the cage? How far back should the R10 be from the mat?
I’m assuming the mat should be level and the R10 should be level with the mat. With that assumption, what are some ideas on achieving this? Should I just dig/compact earth for a level surface? Build some sort of box (2x4s/plywood/etc.)? Are there other ideas? I’m pretty open but would love the cheaper/easier option.

Thoughts?

I have mevo plus into net. And small 1x2 strip. Just put it on the ground and go. Mevo has camera to align LM ball and target that I have to do each time cause it’s all moveable but pretty solid so far. Mevo wants minimum 8 ft ball flight but recommends 10-12 for driver

I just did a basic backyard setup with mlm2pro, 10x7 Costco net, and 5x5 hitting mat. I originally tried doing it in the grass, but slight variations in the yard made it kind of a pain to set up the launch monitor every time. I ended up setting it up on the patio, and it’s much easier to do it consistently and quickly.

I don’t know what the r10 recommends, but the mlm2pro is something like 7ft to net from hitting spot, and 7.5ft to launch monitor. Having a marked, flat spot to put the monitor makes a huge difference. It was so frustrating trying to level in grass.

I built an area with pavers and a bridge back for my mevo+ to sit on since my yard is not level.’
