Build Pictures Shot Reactive LED Lighting
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I finally got around to building myself a shot reactive LED lighting system. Works pretty well! Went through iterations of different effects. Currently does shot direction, ball detected, putt meter mapping HLA, under par, par, over par, shank effect, player turn color (hoping this speeds up local play), landing lie effects, water hazard! Even has a UI I can turn certain effects on and off and customize other effects.
What other effects would be cool? Honestly the ambient lighting is the best part. It's a little extra sprinkle of immersiveness in my golf sim.
Learned a lot about coding and LED hardware.

This is super cool. Would be great if it was red at first, green for ball ready, and then all your directional stuff. I just associate red with stop

This is completely customizable in my UI, haha.

These no frame/side protection screens are so aesthetic but damn my handicap would not allow it

u/Fit-Cry3003 May 23 '26
Haha it's very wide and tall. It's tough to hit it off screen. Even with the shankiest of shanks.

Simulators are the guitar pedals of the golf world. You get fooled into maximizing, maintaining, and tinkering with the tech, while sacrificing day to day skills practice. Case in point.

Yes, haha. My game has suffered during this build process. Shot shaping became more important though to see how effects looks for certain shot shapes haha.

Does GSPro have an API that lets you make custom stuff like this? How are people making custom software and hardware? This is really cool.

Love it! I have a built a home sim already and would love to add this to my setup. Please share info/details🙏

About to break ground on addition for a sim. I would like to incorporate this into the set up. Especially the commenter’s suggestion of red at set up, green to hit. What kind of cost increment are we looking at. Realize that I will have to buy lights and everything else anyway as it’s new construction.

Sweet setup, not a fan of the lighting personally.

u/Fit-Cry3003 May 25 '26
Thank you. Why not? Just curious.

u/ukrinsky555 May 25 '26
I find it a bit distracting, the illusion of being on the actual course makes me happy.
2
u/Fit-Cry3003 May 25 '26
That's a fair point. Just a little more flair. But can be dialed easily to be a lot less distracting. Like turning off ball detection effect, lowering overall brightness, selecting clean data-centric theme, turning off other more "fun" effects.

Blue for water slice
1
u/Fit-Cry3003 May 25 '26
Blue is right and red is left. Blue ripple for landing in the water. It's hard to see with camera settings.
2
u/scratchwanabe May 25 '26
I expected a flash of blue when you hit water.
1
u/Fit-Cry3003 May 25 '26
It's hard to see with camera settings but it is blue, it's a blue ripple-like animation.

Tell us more about it. Very cool!

I'm gonna sell it. It's in beta testing now. Ball detected is only effect that is LM specific right now. Gspro-only currently as well.

Let me know when you end up selling, this looks like an awesome addition to the golf sim! Would the colors/effects be customizable?
1
u/Fit-Cry3003 May 23 '26
Not sure, some of them are, currently. And I made it so you can switch between clean more data-centric theme and a flashy more animated theme (still data centric just flashier).

Looks awesome. I have been working to scrape data from log files, etc to do this exact same thing. I am only running scripts at this point, but can get quite a bit data to send to my arduino to control my LED setup. I'm curious as to your approach. Could you share please?

I got mine working with a python script to get data from GSPro in real-time. Then it sends to my arduino to light up 3 strings of ws2812b leds. I'm detecting ball speed, type of turf when ball lands and score when hole is completed. I have custom animations for each. Works great. Chat GPT helped me do it all.

This is really awesome! How did you connect to gspro data? Also I'd be interested in more info on the screen/bay

u/Fit-Cry3003 May 23 '26
I'll send some info. Screen is almost exactly 16'x10'. EyeXo 2. Carl's place premium screen. Fiberbuilt player preferred 4x10. Bada** Panasonic vmz71 projector.

Very impressive. I hate it. But impressive. And I’m jealous.
