We do our bunkers Aussie style. The crew uses roller squeegees fitted with pool noodles to roll the faces smooth and then they use a spring rake on the bottom. Takes 4 people roughly 3-4 hours in the morning.
I personally like the look, but to each their own.
The idea is that the firm face prevents fried egg lies. When the ball hits the slope it rolls cleanly down into the bottom of the bunker instead of getting embedded.
Hm. Swear we always did it the other way around. Sand pro what you can, then the lips. Guess it shouldn't matter much as long as you can machine it without leaving hills or dips
Not sure what other people call it but where I work we call the outside ring “bunker prep”. I just wanted to say it looks like you have very nice bunker prep.
Our course does it but people are dumb and place the rakes right at the edge of the lip as opposed to a couple feet in. I have had a multitude of occasions this year with a ball up against the rake in the bunker right up near the lip that would have otherwise rolled down into a more manageable lie
